Suggestion for Dragon automatic Odds Settings............

Post by Chessqueen »

Since Dragon is the strongest program giving Odds to Human, it should have a function that the settings will automatically set itself for different humans with different ratings. For instance if a human is rated around 2200 and wants to play a Knight Odds against Dragon 2 or future Dragon3 once it ask you what is your estimated rating and what Odds do you want, it should be able to automatically set up the different Contempt depending on what odds the Human wants. If I say 1950 as my rating and I want a Rook odds then Dragon should automatically set the correct contempt and switch to either a1 Rook or h1 Rook odds. This feature should make it more desirable for humans of different rating who want to challenge Dragon.

Note: I know that we can set the setting to contempt to either 180 or 200, but it would be much easier if the program ask what Odds do you want and if the human beat it with the Rook Odds then it should recommend to decrease to a Knight Odds and automatically set up the correct contempt. This will give us human a chance to be more competitive and to have a higher desire to play against the Dragon Beast.

I would rather to see piece settings in future Dragon versions so us users can toy and play with different settings in trying to improve the engine. :) :) :D

Setting of individual eval terms like piece values is no longer possible with NNUE. Of course we could do it if you turn off NNUE, but that weakens it by nearly a class so few people would want to do this.

Setting up the initial position for the game is a GUI feature, not an engine feature. Contempt ideally should consider handicap, rating, and time control, but we have limited data to base this on. I currently believe that Contempt should be in the 150 to 200 range for knight odds, assuming that the human rating and time control are such as to make this a competitive game. Rook odds should probably be in the 200 to 250 range (250 is the current maximum value for Contempt). By the way, rook odds is always Ra1 so as not to interfere with the usual kingside castling. The aim with handicap play is to try to keep the game as normal as possible so it still feels somewhat like an even game where one side has lost a piece.

I know that Chisw game versus stockfish on Iphone is impressive and I do NOT know if Chriw has Dragon2, It would be interesting to see Chrisw play versus Dragon2 with contempt between 150 to 200 with a normal computer
