The Silicon Road to Chess Improvement

Post by AdminX »

Here is a new book that many of you here might enjoy!

"This book is both a collection of games and a series of lessons on positional play and aims to amaze, entertain, and instruct! The primary source for the games and positional lessons is a treasure-trove of brilliant games that is largely unknown by the wider chess community: the games of superhuman-strength chess engines from the TCEC."

I did read part 1 in one go so it must be a good read :)

How he recommended to analyze openings is new to me. All other books recommend going through master games.
Though I'm a little surprised how he used the engine for analysis (which he didn’t recommend). First, I would have used programs like Aquarium to do this, then let it tell me all why’s.
Also, how he analyses games with letting the engine guide you instead of you guiding the engine. The GM on your shoulder should answer your question and not the opposite. (He recommends a very different approach).
I did expect he to go into the problem with evaluation score, e.g. what you see as +0.5 is after the pv line and not at the current position. He had a link to a page where you could see an evaluation of current position broken down in different evaluation terms, I didn’t know of this page.
