What is the expected nps for SF 16.1 on newer hardware?

Post by Guenther »

Finally after 15 years I could not resist anymore and migrated (most of my stuff) to a new computer, while the old one is/was still running ;)
My new pc is a Ryzen7 5700G with 32GB Ram and it seems to have a very good price/power ratio.

Any numbers for SF 16.1, one core from startpos with deafult settings would be welcome. (if overclocked please mention about it)

Thomas, sorry for the late answer, here is a quick bench of out of the box SF 16.1 avx2.
(will try a profile guided build soon here, my new msys2 environment seems finished)

On Intel Corr i7-13700 (16-core, cache de 24MB, 2.1 GHz até 5.1GHz), 32GB RAM, I get

Code: Select all

Total time (ms) : 735
Nodes searched : 1303971
Nodes/second : 1774110
I simply downloaded the avx2 executable for linux and I ran 'bench' in SF in a terminal. How can I know if these are numbers for one core, and if overclocked or not (and I don't know what that means). But it seems that on this machine, nps is pretty high. On the other hand, on a 7 year old laptop with Intel Core 5, 4 GB RAM, I get 500k nps. I don't know how to interpret the two numbers - from my old laptop to the new desktop should the improvement be considered significant?

Default bench in SF is single core. Please take a look to this thread:

viewtopic.php?p=955976&hilit=bench#p955976

If you want to run bench with 256 MB of hash, 8 threads and depth 20, you must run:

Code: Select all

bench 256 8 20
Feel free to toy with other parameters.

Regards from Spain.

Sorry I forgot to say - this is just the downloaded avx2 compile (Windows 11).
