I am talking chess24/chess.com here, as featured on youtube. This is most probably the most interesting chess tournament in all 2025, and it is certainly interesting and a thrill to follow for chessfans.
For reasons unknown (do they have to save on the money?) we get very unsual teams commenting this year. They started with Howell/Houska which should be OK for everyone (it certainly is for me).
Then they shifted to Houska/Sachdev. This pair already left a lot to be desired. On the first day they were just horrible IMHO and I considered to just switch them off in favour of Stockfish. You expect some human master input, and all you get is chit-chat. Of course they are still pretty decent players, but on this day they lacked the ability to provide human inside and clear explanations that feel way ahead of your own.
On the second day they did better. It helped that the games were very tactical and Tanya (besides getting on my nerves ) turned on the engine at times.
Today we finally got Sachdev/Sargent which clearly takes things way too far. Though Sargent is a nice and friendly guy with a nice voice his chess contributions were just way too useless. He is just too weak a player. This left us with Tanya as the main act ...
At least things can't get much worse I suppose. What is your opinion on the coverage?
