LeelaPieceOdds upgraded

Post by lkaufman »

The LeelaPieceOdds bot was upgraded over the last few days to use a new net by "Lucario6607" and "Naca Fox" for all the multi piece odds not including removal of the queen, except for four minor piece odds. It was trained as a rook odds net, but although it didn't prove to be superior to the current one for rook odds, it is stronger at odds like two knights, two bishops, rook and knight, two rooks, three minors, and rook plus two minors than the previously used queen odds net. The gain seems to be about a hundred elo on average, a bit more for the smaller handicaps, a bit less for the larger ones, at least against human-simulating bots, and already it has played 22 games at odds of two minors (mostly two knights) with both colors against players rated around 2400 on Lichess or even higher, at a variety of time controls from 2'1" up to 10'5", and hasn't lost a single one, just three draws! This is rather amazing. When the bot was first created it was expected to be competitive with players around 2400 Lichess blitz giving them knight odds at around 5'3", now it is crushing them overwhelmingly giving TWO knights! Also, some other odds are now playable with this bot, though you have to paste in the FEN yourself. These include bishop odds (either one, both colors), King's rook odds (both colors), Rook plus pawn odds (queen's rook plus "f" pawn, both colors), Queen for (queen's) rook odds (both colors), and Bishop plus Knight Odds (one from each wing, both colors).

Good evening, Mr. Larry Kaufman and the LeelaOdds team. Thank you very much for letting us play against the robots. Sincerely, Catecan.

Good morning, Mr. Larry Kaufman and Mr. Uri Blass. Today is a special day for me, chess-wise. I won a bullet game without a time increment against the robot LeelaQueenOdds. I've played nine thousand eighty-nine thousand nine hundred and eighty-nine matches against QueenOdds. And today I won my second game. Then I thought: To whom should I dedicate this game? And I thought: To Mr. Larry Kaufman and Mr. Uri Blass, who are and have been for me examples of enthusiastic and motivated souls in the game, science, and computing. I wish you a happy day. Sincerely, Pablo Ignacio Restrepo.

Error. Please excuse my error regarding the number of games I've played against the robot LeelaQueenOdds. I entered an "astronomical" sum; in reality, I've only played 9,089 games against the machine in the last few months. Happy day again to you and everyone in the chat.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but you weren't playing the normal bot. We decided to try out the net that is scoring incredibly well giving two pieces in "LeelaPieceOdds" in the Queen Odds bot, based on good results vs engines. But somehow it is no good against humans, countless weak players were getting wins who never won a game from the normal bot. We don't really understand why it scores well against bots but not against humans, especially since it is crushing humans at two knights odds, but that is the case. We reverted to the normal queen odds net around noon Eastern time or a bit later. Tonite the LeelaPieceOdds bot scored 31.5 to 3.5 (so 90%) in blitz against a high-rated FM (over 2650 LiChess blitz, over 2900 Lichess bullet) giving two knights AND MOVE odds, which is just crazy, but it also beat an IM 8.5 to 1.5 at two knights in blitz. Two knights odds is much larger than rook odds, at least two pawns more. Yet it seems to be strong GM level in blitz giving two knights, though it hasn't yet played GMs. More improvements to various bots expected soon. Even though this attempt to improve queen odds (using a rook odds net!) was a disaster, I expect we will have a genuine improvement to the queen odds bot in a couple weeks or so.

Ok now that makes sense! Yesterday I actually had a plus score against the Queens Odds bot. I had thought it was due to me playing on my mobile and that somehow I was moving faster or I had better vision of the "total board" on the smaller screen. So much for that theory! I was a little surprised at how readily the bot accepted trading down pieces ... something the older bot would refuse to do. Most likely that is why it plays weaker against humans. The previous bot would avoid trades at all costs. It also had one loss on time which had never happened before.

I think it would be great to let the players know which version of the bot they are playing. Also if it would be possible to download the bot and play it on your own computer as trying to get a game on Lichess can be a real PIA sometimes as it is overloaded.

Good morning, Mr. Larry Kaufman. Thank you very much for your teachings and information. Thanks to the entire team that collaborates with Leelabots. I want to inform you all of my simple opinion or diagnosis of the algorithm you are referring to. The first thing is that immediately upon interacting with the LeelaQueenOdds robot, I noticed a change in the robot's personality. And of course, I, without hesitation, quickly hit the robot on the chin, liver, and stomach. The new robot seemed "very ingenious," with "a novel repertoire of openings," and also "very interestingly creative." It was an algorithm that abandoned a "psycho-rigid" system to replace it with a much more flexible way of thinking. A "novel" robot. The current robot is characterized by having "a flat walk", the new robot put me and my imaginary "Catecan" to use the "Colombian fine step", "Trocha", "Trote and Galope." Catecan and I were happy enjoying the new robot. We happily made "transitions or changes in speed between different paces" with variations such as the long or free walk, and the different types of gallop, (short, medium work and long). In short, with this analogy, I want to tell you that not everything was bad in the new robot. There were and are many positive points in the new cybernetic personality.
I am thinking chess is in a coin.Human beings for ever playing in one face. Now I am playing in the other face:"Antichess". Computers are as a fortres where owner forgot to close a little door behind. You must enter across this door.Forget the front.
