A new free web-based pairing tool (using bbp & gacrux engines). Could it be useful for engine tournaments too?

Post by stefanoloberti »

Hi everyone,

I'm Stefano, a software developer and a chess enthusiast. Over the past few months, I've built a 100% free, web-based tournament pairing software called ChessPairings.org.

I originally developed this to help local organizers run Over-The-Board (OTB) human tournaments without spending money. However, knowing that this community runs a massive amount of engine matches and complex tournaments, I am very curious to know if a tool like this could be useful for your engine championships or testing frameworks.

Under the hood (Technical details):

Pairing Engines: The core relies on bbp pairings and gacrux (the same open-source pillars used in FIDE-endorsed software) to guarantee strict FIDE Dutch System mathematical accuracy.

Formats: It currently fully supports Swiss, Double Swiss, and Round Robin.

Chess-Results Integration (NEW): I've just finalized the official API integration with chess-results.com. I implemented the AES encryption, meaning organizers can generate the admin link and manage/upload the tournament directly to their DB with one click.

Web-based & Free: No desktop installation required, no ads, no paywalls.

I'm looking for brutally honest, technical feedback from developers and engine testers.

Are there any edge-cases in the pairing logic you'd like to stress-test?

Any feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
Stefano

Hi Stefano,

that's seems to be wonderful

Since many years I am using a commercial software, Swiss-Chess.
Most of times for my own tourneys with chess computers or chess friends.
https://www.swiss-chess.de/en_start.php

To have it for free as - online - tool is definitely a strong idea!
Site looks easy, many languages are available.
My compliment for your webstyle ... also very nice!

I added the link in my Dinosaur web style site, like HTML code with mistakes, you know:
https://www.amateurschach.de/main/_comparable.htm

:-)

Thank you again!
Indeed a good news!

Best

Hi Frank,

Thank you so much for the incredibly kind words and the warm welcome!

I know Swiss-Chess is a very solid, established commercial software, so hearing that my project caught your eye is a huge compliment. Making a tool that is fast, online, and completely free—without sacrificing the FIDE mathematical accuracy—was exactly my goal.

And a massive thank you for adding the link to your website! "Dinosaur web style" or not, classic HTML sites built by true enthusiasts are the absolute best part of the internet. I am truly honored to be listed there alongside such great resources.

If you ever decide to run one of your computer or friendly tournaments using ChessPairings, please let me know how it goes. I'm always open to feedback or feature requests to make it even better for the community!

Best regards,
Stefano
