thanks to Harvey, Mark and Steve for organizing this challenge.

It was fun to do.
When I ported some engines in CEBoard, I did not have to understand the code as I did with these old versions of Hiarcs (to correct my typos).
And 85 was also probably the last time I wrote basic code

Best regards,

Alain
well there you go
now we can add "Modesty" to your long list of qualities!

i also add my congrats to Alain
not only is Alain a top chess computer collector who maintains a premiere web site for the old computers , but as the author of CEBoard and now the official converter of the Hiarcs Legacy versions ..he can only be called a "True Man For All Seasons"!

it should aslo be noted that Alain has DECLINED the prize of the Citrine as he already has one and he has gracefully offered it to the Hiarcs Team for any other future contests they might decide to hold
so we can also add "Altruism "to the long list of Alains traits

i of course have none of these higher qualities and i am simply overjoyed with happiness to be let "off the hook " this way and not have to actually PAY for the Citrine

as to the match....

I Challenge Team Hiarc's to face my Chess Challenger 3 for two games...this Sunday 11am Chess Base Server Time(5AM EST USA)
CC3 will be set to level two
either Hiarcs 0.3 0r 0.5

if in the unlikely event that the CC3 loses to (the newly ported to the PC) Hiarcs, then we play another two games NEXT week ..same time with the CC3 bumped all the way up to the dizzying heights of level 3

What Say You?
Regards from the B team
Steve
Hi Steve,

Challenge is accepted - if in the unlikely event that the 0.3 H loses written by the 16 year old Uniacke - we challenge you to a rematch with the 0.5 version written by the 18 year old Uniacke.

Although the following saturday wont be possible as Hiarcs and I will be eating Fish in Leiden!

Sounds like fun Regards,

Harvey
OK
Match is ON!

Hi Steve,

just done the maths (cant understand why you yanks would say math) that means you would have already have been very old when the 16 year old Uniacke was preparing your opponent for the match on Sunday.

HI Harvey
slight match glitch

in preparing the CC3 for Sundays slug-fest i notice then when the CC3 is set to move first it will do so but with the dark Pieces!
so its first move for example is E7-E5!
now i guess the playchess server will not allow a game with black to start so the only way around this is for Hiarcs to have the first move in all games

please confirm same

Black Is Beautiful Regards

Hi Steve,

I am sure the Playchess server will not allow Black to move 1st so 2 games as White for me!

It also means that the 2nd game maybe identical to the 1st. If it looks like we will get a duplicate maybe white should be allowed to force a different move 1?

Getting Complicated Regards,

Harvey

did you try to play a few more moves ?

because I remember that my CC7 had this feature : it played white but without having to return the board, and it indicated e7-e5 to play d2-d4.
So you should try to play a few moves to see where your CC3 thinks its queen and king are.

It would require you to convert the coordinates but it is no big deal if you place the pieces in the right position.

Old memories regards,

I did also a few maths for me and saw that Mark and I have the same age...
And now I am really impressed by UK because I had read on http://www.hiarcs.com/beginning.htm that Mark started computer studies in 1979 which being only 14 years old  !
At that time in France, there was absolutely no way to learn computer programming so young, I was sticked to Maths and Physics until I reached 20... :?
OK, I don't really complain as I love Maths & Physics too  but the reactivity (?) of the English schools is really impressive.

Congrats to UK regards,
Alain

hi Alain
no big deal for YOU ..a man who converts computer languages for chess programs while at the same time playing Legos with his children and reading the morning newspaper!

i am even lucky to manage to play a normal game with the computer and then transfer moves to the playchess server.let alone now convert notation in the middle

even with no conversion i am averaging at least one MOUSE SLIP IN EVERY GAME
:(

while Harvey has NO Mouse slips!

Overwhelmed Regards
Steve
