when programerns start think that " not is posible " learn more about a positions ches... " his level " not UP... after do a lot of better programs some people think that " the limit" of programer not is posible...
while others programers ( rybka ) say that the actuality program HAVE a lot of "errors" and there are a lot OF WORK about it...
others think that "only" speed is need... ?¡ OK... maybe in "end-game" need speed to "destroyed" the interesting END games... but while time ...

Did you say something? ¡¡¡ this is a good aswerd ? OK you have 8.000 post ... OK ...Did you say something?
if I used every post to write:
"Did you say something?"
I would have the BIGEST record of "stupid" post in the world... ?¡
maybe you try write something INTERESTING.... maybe incorrect... maybe correct ? OK
but SOMETHING ?¡ because:
"Did you say something?" ( and 8.000 post ) is similar to this:
NOTHING.

Off topic: some nice tigerpictures for Christophe of Odin the underwater tiger that can be found with Timothy's new avatar, and that he somehow associates with Virginia Class submarines, I don't quite get it, fishing with a 2 million dollar atomic sub seems a bit like overkill to me..

This one of course needs some photoshopping by Gerold to change the prey into a fish..

How thick is this glass?

I don't think any zoo visitors will mistake this for a friendly smile

I'm coherent, which is more than I can say for some.

Re: An attempt to steer things in a useful direction... :)
I think what he's trying to say is:
CPU speed is not the only thing relevant to a successful chess-playing computer.
Well, yes, if I use a straight minimax on the machine I will still lose to any of the top engines on a regular Pentium or even less. Probably even with Eden.
And Christophe rightly said that this is not really a huge or new discovery.
And of course having a faster machine makes your engine run faster, OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL.
Oliver seems to be saying that other things are not always equal; English is probably not his first language (I know it's not for Christophe either, nor for me, but I guessed we have more practice) so it sounds a bit strange.
He's making it sound as if CPU speed is irrelevant, which of course it isn't.
Many things he said are truly wrong, and do somewhat justify Christophe's comment "You don't know what you're talking about".

CPU speed it´s MORE irrelevant THAT chess knowledge
you can TEST positions ELO level engines... on INTEL 2 GHz.. on INTEL 3 GHz and ON intel 4 GHZ... the UPS ¡¡¡ are irrelevant... and in level tournoment versus human ... more irrelevant ...
on the other hand if you TEST these positions LEVELs with fritz 5.32, with CHESS Tiger... and with rybka... you cAN SEE enormus diferents ¡¡¡
chess knowledge VERSUS SPEED CHESS ?
say that after applying THOUSANDS and thousands of algorithms, ... of adding knowledge...
then and alone then they SAY that it is "necessary" speed?
at good TIME ¡?... If really WITH speed you solves the problems of the means game they would not be today in day programming rybka, for example.
That opinion is typical of who cannot apply but knowledge, or this tired of it... but it is evident that some programs don't USE the gross force to carry out CALCULATIONS...
evidently it is more simple to program "for speed" that to program knowledge...
Due to the speed, you ended up enlarging the end-tables. correct but they are many years to arrive to similar reasoning.
TODAY IN DAY... the modern modules are the example more clear of "knowledge" in front of speed...
IF went to the you review... the yield improvement and of serious ELO but "white" when increasing the CPU... and it is that THEIR influence is but very reduced
In another topic this... for that SOME modules choose "certain" branches in the search tree? and for that other modules-chess (~2750) they are ABLE to lose 70% of games in front of other I module-chess (~3000)...
To affirm that "the speed" took from of the jam to some programmers, it is to recognize that they cannot "teach" more to its program-chess... or that they don't know "as" selecting the variants more interesting.... or more tacticals...
While differences exist "among" programs so disparate... and while the yield increase is not but representative...
we can conclude THAT
Chess = KNOWLEDGE 70% - speed 30%.
bye, since SPAIN.
( Can some modules with down KNOWLEDGE win other engines with more KNOWLEDGE... if the first run in a very FAST cpu... and the second engine run in a 1/2 ... speed, I´m will test... and maybe see that Fritz 5.32.. can not win rybka when fritz 5.32 run in a 4 GHz.. and rybke run in a 1 Ghz... see that 4 time more... speed ¡¡¡ but... HIs algoritms of search... , tactical select tree... etc = his KNOWLEDGE about positions is more small ...)
I think that THAT KNOWLEDGE it´s enough to compensate a slowly CPU...

Hallo,
the core-to-dua? Wrong you
You saying you go war in battle ride donkey can live after battling Armour Tanker. You sure die and cannot see the homeland welcome
You wisdom many I see, but many here must buy decipher software to benefit your computer chess gems wisdom. First translate you english to understanding english then use you wisdom gems...
and elo straight shoot to heaven
I Snailchess beat Rybka 3 ways:-
1) buy very expensive hardware(1 million eros) very powerful and pinned down Vasik. Tell him sorry I rich you poor I win.
2) I poor use pentium4. Vasik use 8-core. I win and tell Vasik sorry. I win I very smart you lesser smart.
I add many knowlege in Snailchesss - NoNoNo! not speed probelm... smart problem.
3) ....
Better Regards,
Rasjid
You the right also the wrongs... you saying any many thinks? saying Formula-1 racing use the pentium-4 winsCPU speed it´s MORE irrelevant THAT chess knowledge
