so i guess i was just one of the first to voice dissent

Wouldn't really mattered who he'd chosen as there would still be people moaning and groaning.

Regards, Graham.
yes i can just see the complaints coming in fast and furious if Kaufman chose Nakamura
..somehow.. i just dont think so..(of course i can see Ehlvest complaining )

but you are right about something though..
i and others would still call the match itself bizarre because of the goofy match terms and therefore not very interesting

so basically there are two bollixed up parts to this challenge

Ehlvest
Terms of play

Non Event Regards
Steve
Usually the silent majority keep quiet. It's always a vocal minority who make all the noise.
This is a well established maxim regarding most things in life.

Regards, Graham.
actually if not for vocal minorities speaking up..
an internet forumn like this would look kinda empty

My Best Regards

Tell you what - I'll start a poll to get people's opinions on the match, then we can both see where we stand.
The choices will be:
- I'm looking forward to the match
- Neutral
- I'm not interested

Regards, Graham.

can i ask what exactly this accomplishes?

if 17 people vote they are interested and 13 are not i and others are then suddenly supposed to be interested in the match as it stands now??
or if vice versa i am supposed to feel that i am right?

do you always go along with the majority on everything Graham?

personally i think its silly

however if you want to start a poll at least ask the right question
such as..

who would you rather see play?
Ehlvest
Nakamura
Benjamin

and another poll

would you prefer the match be played on these terms or normal match terms

the questions will dictate the response Regards

Well Steve - both the comments in the Rybka forum and the choices in the poll in CCC seem to confirm that Nakamura was the peoples' choice.

So I have to admit you're in the majority on that one for sure!

I've made my choice for the 11,000 dollar challenge match (see "match offer" for details) in which Rybka will play only Black and without book after move three. It will be GM Ehlvest (again), FIDE rating 2643. He is currently #4 in the U.S. and #70 in the world, and has been as high as World #5 around 1990. Although he lost the previous pawn-handicap match to Rybka, he showed great mental toughness and character in scoring 2 out of the last 3 games in that match despite having already lost the match and all chance for a money prize.

does anyone really think that Ehlvest mental toughness and great character makes this match exciting? HELLO!! - Ehlvest got whooped! We need someone that can play BETTER!

bad choice ..BORING -- they should have worked it out with Nakamura .... but it's their money ..so not much I can do about it .... I'm surprised ony 6 applied - what were the restricitions?

he lost before regards,

This is exactly their point.
We need someone who can play better and ehlvest learned to play better.

He started the last match by losing 3-0 and played better later so he won the last 3 games 2-1

right on the money!

oddly there are some who are actually interested to see the match to see if Ehlvest can improve his play??

its one thing to watch Rybka play(even i am interested in that) but to follow the match to watch Ehlvest ??

there are actually Ehlvest fans out there??

let me just say right here and now Mike..

the King is Dead Regards

Uri,

I am surprised at you - since when does 3 games have any statistical significance ?

He lost the match 4 -2 witha 33% score . In basedball , a 33% win percentage will usually cement the basement. It is at the bottom of the cellar.

Next batter regards,

Michael
