Where did all the posts go?

Post by Eelco de Groot »

Hello all,

I posted a new thread in the Tournaments and Matches Forum this morning about my experiences with the new Pro Deo 1.5 and I received a personal message about that from Dom Leste, but I just came back from a visit and for me both the thread and message are gone and I see a lot of other stuff is missing as well.

%$#$@^*! :( :x :?:

What is going on? Earthquake, Supertroll or Cyber-attack, the return of Chris Whittington, complaints against my good results or just attemps to move to a new server? Anybody know more about this? How much did we lose and when? Are we still losing posts at this moment? Did somebody alert Quentin yet?

Does anybody still dare to post anything, was it just temporary forum overload or did the forum actually crash completely?

I doubt if we lose posts.
posts disappear and later appear again.

When I try to post I get error messages.
There are clear problems in the last day

The Move has been successful!

However, it will take 24 - 48 hours for the new DNS to propogate. Also, any posts made after the move will not show up.

For important posts, please back up what you write, because it may dissapear. I will make an attempt to recover the data, but that could still potentially overwrite some newer ones - so please just play it as safe as possible.

I will put out a final update after DNS propogation.
I get directed to two server adresses now:
216.25.93.108
64.68.157.89

Does anybody know which is the old and which is the new one?
Funnily the above message from Quentin is only present on one of the two servers.

Yeah...they are having serious problems making the move to this new server.

Posts are getting mangled, I've been credited with posts I never made and had to delete them!

It's just nuts.

Don't you think that is a blessing in some ways?

:D

Maybe I should explain....

You see we can have the "Deep Sjeng in second place at wccc" thread all over again.

It just needs renamed "Deep Sjeng in sixth place at wccc".

:D

Quentin stated that this was likely to happen with the move to the new server and that members should make backup copies of any posts that they wanted to retain.

Graham,

Could it be that most posts are still going to the old server? When I bookmarked CCC my browser stored something like that:

http://216.25.93.108/forum/index.php

instead of

http://www.talkchess.com/forum/index.php

Maybe we should make people aware to verify their bookmark?

You hit the nail on the head! This is exactly what's happening!

People should bookmark the old site and retrive their posts that they feel are valuable to CCC.

Crikey, I'm glad this move to the new server will be complete before my on-the-spot-roving-reporter thread begins regarding the "World 4K Dedicated Championship Match of 2007". I'd hate for my detailed pictorial reports of the opening and closing ceremonies to go missing, nor the game reports, not to mention the award ceremony in which member Klute will award the prize to the loser.

Phew Regards
