Jennifer:
The very best is the one that let you win or draw, but looks as if he really tried to win the game.
Any other current, vulgar program, just maul you hard.

Looking far beyond average people regards

Good advice from Graham....

I have CM 9000 on my new computer, but

I still have fun on my old computer playing against Chess Master 2100...

Also, Chess Master 4000 was one of my favorites too...

Robert,
Have you ever beaten ''LACY'' CM9 no take-back etc?

When you ask for the best, we must ask:
"Best in what way?"

Rybka is probably the strongest commerical engine.
Glaurung is probably the strongest free engine (Toga/fruit variants are about the same).
The best commerical opening preparation program is probably Bookup.
The best free opening preparation program is probably SCID.
The best commerical engine+GUI+Database combination is probably Chess Assistant.
The best free engine+GUI+Database combination is probably Arena + Rybka 1.0 or SCID + Rybka 1.0.
The best human-readable explanation of move analysis is found in ChessMaster.

We need to know what you want to accomplish?
Are you trying to improve your game?
Are you trying to play online?
Are you trying to hold tournaments?

The best answers to your questions will depend on what you want to do with the program.
I downloaded Scid and Rybka 1.0 but can't find how to integrate them. There are instructions in Scid for integrating other analysis engines, but not for Rybka - so can you help me.

Thanks
