It seems there was a bit of controversy after the first game of the match
Kittinger lodged a protest on behalf of Team Diablo complaining that i ended the game too early and insisted that ALL games must now be played on until mate or they would withdraw from the competition

obviously the threat of dismemberment by wooden mallet has both teams on edge

in an effort to keep the match alive i relayed the protest to Team Mach III
Nelson ,speaking for Team Mach III replied..."Thats pure Garbage. The position was so hopeless that even my CC1 could beat the Diablo from the position you ended it at"
however in the spirit of competition ,Nelson finally agreed to the new terms

therefore all remaining games will now be played out until mate

GAME TWO

The Next Batter up for Team Mach III is the Excel :

The Excel has slightly different options then the Designer and is able to show nodes searched per second

in the Game the Excel had the black pieces and was out of book first at move 10
it typically searched 6 ply and 2000 Nodes per second
it will be remembered from the other Diablo games shown in this thread(Nigel Short and Academy) that the Diablo also hits 6 ply and about 1500 Nodes per second

Surprsingly team Diablo readily agreed to end the game here(and pocket the win) while Team MACH III(who only hours before at the start of the game called this new rule "Garbage") protested vehemently shouting out "A DEAL IS A DEAL!!"

sadly therefore the game continued for another 45 moves..

I'd take precautionary measures during the next round, in case the EAG v2 fouls up in it's game :!:

The Match Continues with the Diablo facing Team Mach III's third batter the EAG v2

the v2 is a wooden auto-sensory computer which has several more features then the non wooden Mach III's
these features are derived from the fact that the V2 was loaded with more Ram then the non wooden Mach III's which enabled the computer to "Learn" or "remember" positions that caused the computer to have large drops in valuations

the various versions (2-4)of the EAG series denote more Ram being used with the V2 using 128k ,the V3 512 K and the V4 1 Meg of Ram

Image

it was no small feat squeezing both computers onto my desk to face off against each other but i was just barely able to manage it:

so much for my predictions..

Match Score...
Team Mach III 2-Diablo 1

White has won all games in the match so far and with Diablo having White in the final Game there is a good chance the
match might wind up a tie at 2-2

this would suit me just fine as then i am not Forced to destroy any chess computers
if there is to be a loser in the match i would prefer it to be the Diablo and not Team Mach III as it will be much easier to smash apart one chess computer rather then four

The Final game in the War Of The Worlds match is upon us

the score stands at Team Mach III with 2 points and the Diablo with 1
in the match all wins have been by the player of the White pieces

batting cleanup for Team Mach III is the highly sought after and Rare Elite Premiere
one of only two chess computers ever released for sale to contain more then one engine(the Resurrection being the second) it
contained the Mephisto Vancouver 16 program as well as the Mach III

the computer was a joint effort by Fidelity and Mephisto(which owned Fidelity by then)

this very unique computer had a switch in the front panel which would change the loaded program

here you can see this switch with the Vancouver program on the left and the Mach III on the right:

White is up a pawn and will soon win another
interestingly here..both computers show the same EXACT PV with Diablo ahead by +1.79

[d] 5rk1/R2R1bp1/3B3p/1p6/1P4P1/7P/P1r2P2/6K1 b - - 0 37

the Diablo ahead two pawns now adds to its bounty a Bishop for a pawn
the game is over but Team Mach III insisted on playing on with nothing to lose ,the worst it could end up with was a drawn match, while the Diablo if it blundered would be facing the Gallows( Wood Mallet)

37..Rxa2 38.Rxf7 Rxf7 39.Rxa2 g5 40.Bc5 Kh7 41.Kg2 Rd7 42.Ra6 Kg7 43.Rb6

[d] 1R3Q2/r6k/7p/6p1/6P1/7P/5PK1/8 b - - 0 53
Returning the favor of the last game(Where the EAG v2 announced mate in 7) the Diablo announces mate in 4 here

53..Rg7 54.Qf5+ Rg6 55.Rb7+ Kh8 56.Qf8+ Rg8 57.Qxh6# 1-0

FINAL POSITION

[d] 6rk/1R6/7Q/6p1/6P1/7P/5PK1/8 b - - 0 57

it really was interesting to see how each computer when playing white seemed far stronger then the other
and when playing Black far weaker then the other

FINAL SCORE-MATCH DRAWN
Novag Diablo....2
Team Fidelity Mach III.....2

Since the match was drawn there will be no execution by Mallet on this day and 4 of the 5 computers will be returned safely and soundly to their resting places far below the surface of the Earth in the subterranean bunkers where they are normally stored:

the Premiere will remain on the surface for further testing of the Vancouver Program

Sometimes testing can also be preformed by setting up a position and then watching the computers thought process and moves

there has been some discussion on the net recently about whether the Fidelity Mini-Sensory loaded with the Advanced Chess module is the same computer as the Fidelity Silver Bullet (which was the portable version of the Gambit)

while there are some differences between the two regarding levels and other functions i set up the following position and set both computers to the 2 minutes per move level:

[d] 5Q2/r6k/7p/1R4p1/6P1/7P/5PK1/8 w - - 0 53

here the Mini-Sensory(CAC) as white plays Rb6
while the Silver Bullet plays Qf5+

so my conclusion is that they are not similar programs

Proof Positive Regards

yes you are correct
the MachIII had the isolated pawn on f3 which was soon lost

both computers were in their tournament book through move 15 so if colors were reversed the Diablo would have the isolated pawn and probably lose the game in much the same way

Having the Fidelity Elite Premiere still on the examination tables fresh from its match against Team Mach III,it was a no brainer to flip the switch and change the engine to the Mephisto Vancouver 68000 16 bit which is Rated 2119(SS) and programmed by Lang

in deciding on a suitable opponent for the Van i scanned the July 07 Selective Search rating list in the vicinity of the Van 16 which revealed the following:

Novag Sapphire 2-2132
Fidelity EAG v9-2122
Mephisto Vancouver 68000-2119
Mephisto Berlin 68000-2118
Mephisto Lyon 68000-2116
Mephisto Almeria 020-2114

since the three lower rated computers were also Lang programs and since the first higher rated computer was yet another version of the Spracklen Fidelity EAG i settled upon the Kittinger Sapphire II

the Sapphire II is a small "calculator" style computer which can be attached to the Universal Chess board (if one is in the mood for wood)
however have just gone through two grueling games with 4 full sized wooden computers stuffed and crammed on my desk it was a relief to be able to hold one computer in my hand and get some elbow room back
another nice change is i dont have to make the Sapphire II's moves on its own board ..because there is no board

Image

In The Game the Van had White and was first out of book on move 10
it typically searched 4/16 in the middle game and 6/18 in the Endgame
the Sapphire II hit 7 ply mid game and 9 ply endgame

due to an unprecedented demand by collectors worldwide(2 collectors) i have been asked to now compare the Fidelity SC6 against the Mini-Sensory with CAC module

in the above position on the two minute level the SC6 plays Qf6

so for the three different computers we have three different moves:
Silver Bullet-Qf5+
Mini Sensory CAC-Rb6
SC6-Qf6

Conclusion
three different programs regards
