OT - CPU temperature monitoring software

Hi,

I recently performed a modest processor upgrade on my Asus A8Vdeluxe and now I'd like to experiment with overclocking......

Does anyone know of any software that will monitor the CPU temp in realtime? It doesn't necessarily need to stress the system at the same time as I have plenty of options to hit maximum stress but if it could I guess it would be easier?

Any pointers appreciated.

On my computers I have "Motherboard Monitor" (MBM5) that displays all the temps. Not sure where you get it - you could probably google it.

Just for reference .

I have the same motherboard and running an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ at 2.4 GHz >>undervolted<< to 1.2 volt, rock solid in hours of prime running in two instances.
CPU temp at 49-50C full load. Using a large Zalman 7000B-cu cooler.

I can easily hit 2.8 GHz but my memory is holding me back so I am sticking with 2.4 to keep memory within specs which is 200 MHz and my HT link is at 960 MHz

I use the asusprobe software which came in the driver cd

dont forget to download cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

it is a great tool for overclockers.

I didn't build my machine (I bought it from Mesh in the UK) so sadly I don't have the asusprobe software. I had similar ideas on cooling, I bought a Zalman 8700 cooler but Mesh have removed the standard 939 cooler mount and replaced it with a Akasa one, which means I can not use the Zalman!

I replaced a 3800+ with a 4400+x2 and I have worked my way up to 2.3ghz. Temperatures are just below yours at 48-49C at 1.4v.

I've ordered some serious fans to beef up the Akasa cooler and once I've done that I'll try and push a little further.

How did you step down your HT freq?at 2.3ghz mine is ~1050ghz?

I am using the beta bios version 1018.001. You can reduce the Hypertransport frequency from bios, under CPU configuration but depending on CPU multiplier which is 10X in my case and the memclock to CPU ratio used which is 3:2 in my case, this value changes.
You can access this multiplier by changing memclock mode to “Limit”
Even then I think the bios does some unknown adjustments to it so it is best to check it with cpu-z after each change.

I'm also running bios version 1018.001.

I've now nudged up to 2.4ghz (FSB @ 219mhz, multiplier is 11x) at 1.4v and have seen no increase in temperature versus running at 2.3ghz.

I won't proceed any further until the additional cooling has arrived, when(if) I do go higher then I will pro-rata down the HTT and memory freq as you suggest. From what I've read I should be (just) inside the safety margin at the moment on both. Indeed the machine survived a torture test for more then 12 hours with no issues
