Hi Daniel,

I hate to bring this news but even CTD plays Nh5 in just 2 seconds, and needs 4.5 seconds to see the whole line in its pv from the position you gave. No positive score for it though, but considering the fact that CTD has no king safety evaluation that is not surprising.

For those that wonder what CTD is: It is not the Baron, but a still very dumb engine with only the basic stuff to play chess. It does have a relatively fast move generator etc. but no nullmove, no pruning, no search tricks and basically a piece-square table evaluation (with only a few extra's.
Funny enough, although the Baron has a more realistic score, and finds Nh5 faster, it seems to have a bit more trouble selecting Nf4 (in the PV):

Hi Richard,

yeah thanks, but i think the position is very very difficult because the engfine should show the right scores. So, ayfter Nh5 and Nf4 should given +3.00 or higher and some moves later the engine should score +9.00 or higher.

So the engines might find the moves very fast, but doesn't understand whats going on here.

Best,
Daniel

Why do you say a specific score, should be given by any engine?
Perhaps a score of +2.00 for an engine means a 95% chance of winning while a +9.00 in another engine means the same probability.

You assume that a score +1.0 is relative to the Pawn value set to +1.0 for this engine so that +9.00 is a sure win while a +1.80 is not, but an engine is not forced to follow this rule and perhaps a +2.00 for an engine is a sure win.....

Also even for engines that follow this "rule" that a +3.00 is a very good position for white and a +9.00 a win for white, for example Rybka 1.2i, it is not true that they see a score of -9.00 in this position after Nh5, Nf4.
It sees that black is better but with scores of "only" -1.40 after 6 moves after Nf4.
According to a post of Vasik a -1.40 is around 83% probability for black to win. I think it is a good enough evaluation of the position.
After his son's birth they've asked him:
"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

Hi Daniel,

after 1. ...Nh5
2. Rxf7 Nf4
2. Na3

Fritz8 shows a score of -12.4 immediatly.
Even on a slow computer.
Is that enough?

kind regards

Fruit 05/11/03 Gambit 004 needs to go to twenty ply, but then it thinks that White better not take the pawn off f7 but better chase away the Black Bishop with b4. At twentyone plies the position does not yet seem completely lost for White, -1.59 pawns from White's viewpoint. After 2.Rxf7 the score would probably be higher in Black's favour
