Crafty 20.14 BH x64 t4 on QX6700 Quad 2.66GHz

Post by Sedat Canbaz »

Hello,

Even when the match was with ponder off, Crafty 20.14 BH x64 t4 are still pondering in the opponent's time, its using 3 threads (using 75% CPU of the machine)

Not: Crafty 20.15 PS x64 t4 has the same problem.

Conditions:

Used Hardware:Intel QX6700 Quad 2.66 GHz
O/S:Windows XP Professional x64
ChessGUI:Arena 1.99b4
Tournament type:Gauntlet
Book:Opening DB(100 Pos)
Time Control:15 min + 10 sec

For that reason,Crafty 20.14 BH x64 t4 will be tested only against single processor engines in SCCT Rating List:

Hi Sedat,
Yes,this is a known feature, and note that I say feature and not a bug :D
In my tournaments I use Crafty as a single cpu engine....

Zdravei priatelio !

Yes,its a pitty that in my test,Crafty with 4 threads will not see the multi-processor opponents such as Rybka,ZapChess,Hiarcs...

I hope it will be fixed soon !!!

Poff, poff

what does a ponder off match say?
In reality a human has the oportunity to think on opponents time.
Why not in engine matches?

BTW, how old is crafty 20.14?

Zdravei :D ,

In fact The author of Crafy once answered me about this issue:
It's a special design in the Crafty's code which serves the engine in the bullet time control matches :!:
So as I told you Sedat,it's a feature and not a bug and it will not be changed for now :D

Crafty is not pondering it just will not release the other threads that are running (the primary thread is released). This is by design by Bob and he has explained the reason for this.

Hello,

Yes,its true that Crafty is not pondering,i was meaning ''its using''

and there is one true:
-Crafty is using 75% CPU of the machine in the opponent's time !!!

In other words i can not test it against engines which use 4 threads !
