Anything that is at the "forefront" of any entity will have public expectations.

It is fine if you don't care when it comes out, but for others who would like a version that is less buggy or has different features will be asking when and where.

Although I don't believe Arena to be at the forefront, because it doesn't support Chessbase engines, yet Chessbase GUI supports nearly everything now... that is the forefront in my eyes.

Is there any creditable rating list that exclusively uses Arena?

Peter
Hi Peter,
Arena cannot support ChessBase engines because it's a private format and ChessBase must reveal it so it can be supported 8-)

I understand your point, and I am not saying Arena isn't a fine piece of software.

It is in my collection as well, but to say it is at the forefront and then dismiss people's wants or expectations is wrong.

That is all I am saying. Arena is fine as it is to me.

I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

People can have expectations Peter and that is ok.

Martin works to his own timetable and that is the point.

I expect Arena 2.0 when Martin is ready.

He is also working on the linux version. He is not a company, he is just one person with many helpers.

I personally don't care if Arena 2.0 takes two more years (but i doubt highly that is the case) to come out. Suffice it to say...Arena is and will be at the forefront of computer chess because that is what Martin wants.

How long he takes to do something is his concern. As far as i and anyone at Arena is concerned he can take as much time to do it as he wants.

It is his......and he decides what he wants to do. There is no pressure.....he has done more than enough already......

Anything else is a bonus.

Arena is a nice GUI and can only get better as time goes on.
The ability to load both Winboard and UCI engines without resorting to adaptors is a real bonus.

I've had all sorts of problems with Winboard engines in the Shredder GUI. I have to resort to using the wb2uci adaptors there.

Regards, Graham.

Because its Winboard interface is totally buggy. To say it in the most polite, benevolent style I'm able to. However, Einboard/Xboard+Polyglot works perfectly.

Great, I have been using Arena in my tournament and it is a great free software for chess out there, It would be cool if swiss option is implemented in Arena 2.0
