Moderator candidate question, topicality.

Do you think the charter should be enforced strictly regarding "on-topic" posts or is there some room, within reason, for personal events and chat?

By way of example, if you were moderator, would you delete or let stand Fernando's recent post about the death of his dog Negrita?

i have no problem with an occasional personal post

most members aren't going to post personal information so its not as if the board is going to be overrun with posts of this nature

we are a club and sometimes there is a need to share things like this with each other

actually .. to be honest..i am more likely to delete one of Ferns posts when he tries to struggle through a point about PC engines

Since it is still there, you know the view of the current moderators. Same goes for Peter's announcement of his baby for example. It is just as Steve says though: this is a club, not some mere technical support forum. Still, some discussions can and are moved on occasion to the CTF forum, but it's pretty rare.

It is just as Steve says though: this is a club, not some mere technical support forum. Still, some discussions can and are moved on occasion to the CTF forum, but it's pretty rare.

Clearly there's room for these kinds posts, however the line probably thin, since, if it becomes more "typical" it could easily be a normal kind of post, and that would drain CCC from it's mainpurpose, computerchess.

I may like those posts too, personally, but I think they belong in CTF - where unfortunately I wouldn't see them myself, I guess...
Conclusion, don't make a habit to post personal posts of the kind in CCC, but make them in CFT (please sent me a PM when you do - I'd like to read them)

Once a time is ok for me but not permanently or as a habit.
Generally I think CTF is the better place for this.
It is even point one in the charta.

1. Are, within reason, on the topic of computer chess

What are Smileys?
Smileys, or Emoticons, are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling using a short code, e.g. :) means happy, :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smileys, though, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether.

Still it seems some don't follow both rules.
So I think there is some room, but it shouldn't be stretched. ;-)

Agreed.

CCC should not be a chatroom (although obviously some chat is to be expected in some threads), but posts such as Fern's and Peter's are okay with me.

I have never seen a problem with personal posts with in reason.

Sometimes it is a nice break from all the technical talk to know what is happening in and around our member's lives.

As long as it not an everyday thing.. fine by me.
