I know that the reasoning is faulty, if many people here are allowed to use an alias, why not let others use an alias if they wish to? You have seen the list made by Thorsten, out of that list everyone except ray uses an alias. They should be given the same treatment that Gaston Levabre received.
The list provided has several "real" members and the fact that two have been pointed out already points to the foolishness of making such a list.
All it can do is offend those "real" members and make yourself look bad.
Regards, Graham.
Gaston's name looked more real than the names on that list. Ofcourse, the list isnt devoid of errors. After all we are humans. I dont have the skill to sell sand in Sahara over the net, but I know how to sell water in the middle of a desert.
The list is invalid because it has two real members.
So if we remove those two real members then the list is good right?
Not necessarily no, because there could be others on the list that are also "real" members.
Possible, but the majority of them uses an alias. Isnt that the issue here? Gaston was a real member as well, he just didnt use his own name.
Well, members can make up their own minds and cast their vote.
The purpose of this thread was really to point them in the right direction to register their vote, so let's give it a couple of weeks and see what the outcome looks like.

Well,I would like to add my opinion and some would too, as this thread does have same subject as the poll in the forum help, and is in general forum.
I would like to add some messages about something that some members here might be unaware of, like ChrisW and Ed was out because of this alias issue.

Where is CTF? And where is the H&S subforum?
You are joking right? After you login, look on the bottom of the main page. Beware of spooky aliens.

Believe it or not, I have not been aware of that pull-down list. I've never looked at the bottom of the page.
Besides, I never come here just for joking, however much I like to do that.
What is more, the list is not even shown if I am not logged in, which I don't usually do.
Not showing CTF is a relatively new thing. It was intended to prevent malicious accounts from signing up. You are not one of those who uses fifty thousand smileys per post, and you joked about the Zappa free illegal update, so I had to ask.
It may very well count for nothing, but it would be good to have all members vote for whether or not they support the use of aliases as opposed to real names.
Werner wrote:Hi Graham,
that´s a funny poll in my opinion:
"Chris W should have a special exemption from a general prohibition against aliases"
This question causes me not to make a poll.
I think we are not in a Kindergarden.
Werner,
I have already explained this option 3 several times. On CTF several members indicated they were not really bothered about a general prohibition against aliases but wished there could be some way to make an exception for Chris Whittington. (For example, Dan Honeycutt gave a list of reasons to justify CW being made a special case.) I therefore included it as a third option. I did not anticipate that the poll would be moved from CTF to Help and Suggestions. Had I known I probably would not have included option 3 because it arose from CTF posts and not from CCC. However, to say that the inclusion of that option prevents you voting for either option 1 or 2 seems somewhat perverse.
