You will find out, that SMIRF's mating procedure still is unprecise, but sufficient to succeed. ChessV has been improved a lot. It seems to search a little bit more selective than SMIRF does and to tend to slightly over-evaluate centralized pawns (replayable e.g. using SMIRF).

I managed to install SMIRF 1.69b and play a game against Tornado 1.0 today. It was game/30 + 15 seconds.
Tornado won with a mate on move 61.
I will post the game if you would like to see the play.

Ed, this would be interesting, showing me, how other engines are improving. Fine, that you have now a more recent SMIRF at hands. The current version of SMIRF under development MS-169c has been changed regarding the covering of pawns' centralization e.g. during the opening and in inspecting quiet moves a little bit more intensively. This program is now reaching its limits, established by its old data structures and its very slow evaluation routine, both basicly designed with the birth of SMIRF. Nevertheless I hope the benefits of that later changes will to be noticed.

Variant Pulverizer just played a game too with SMIRF. It was the strangest game I have ever seen! It moved it pieces out, then retreated them back to the back rank, then redepolyed them! It's program must have a strange "piece placement" algorithm.
Again, it won against SMIRF, and I promise you, it was the weirdest game I have ever seen!
I will place both of these games online soon.

The donationware version of SMIRF could be downloaded via: http://www.10x8.net/down/SmNewSetup.exe (GUI + BC-Engine)
The improved and faster MS-engines are for serious donators (and special contributors) only, who will own a personalized access key.

Thanks, Ed. Glad to see you're just as mature as ever.mageofmaple wrote:
