I know you are using the non- deep UCI version as i am. I have 2 questions for you if you dont mind. First, i loaded by doubleclicking on the EngineShredder11UCI.exe Im sure you did also. But why in the engine folder does it also have a WB2UCI.exe file that is 96kb. What the hell is it for. and my 2nd question is i have not downloaded the big 17kb book yet. But the 1300kb book that comes with it seems to play openings, but not automatic like shredder 10. It might let 4 or 5 seconds go off its time before it makes the book move. What is going on there.
thanks, Tony --- George

1)WB 2 UCI file is for people who wants to use WB engines under shredder.
2) I have known chess engines that takes four or five seconds before the first move, I know one that takes 20, Dragon comes to mind. it shouldnt bother you since you use a generic book. Are you playing it under arena 1.1? Did you export the book to a .pbk file? Try the following and see if it works any better, it could be a problem with loading the book in to Ram. I forget the days everyone exchanged non-abrasive messages.

Oh yea, I remember doing that last time around. Are you talking about the export book option were it creates a .pbk book? It works for me now, I cant believe I forgot about it. All Erik has to do is to install the shredder11book, and then go to Extras>Opening Book>load opening book and it loads the shredder11.bkt. Then he has to go Extras>opening book>export opening book and it creates a .pbk book. When I said I couldnt find the .bkt book last time I was actually talking about the .pbk book, I was never able to find it. Yes, it does play d or e moves, it did in few of my games with shredder 10.

Thanks for the quick response, Tony. You are right, i will be using a generic book anyway. But i will take your advice if i ever use the other one for any reason. Thanks again

Anytime George, I've had similar problems in the past. Have you ever had similar problems with Chispa? If so how did you solve it? I solved the problem with Dragon by using a generic book, but that doesnt seem to work for Chispa. Now that Chispa is a very old engine and that the author no longer seems to be interested in bitboards according to his last message I read, we might see a new beast after all.geots wrote:Thanks for the quick response, Tony. Tony, what little i have run Chispa has been with one of Sedat's generic books. Dont really know much about Chispa. So many engines- so little time.

I am not Tony but I can clarify some things:
1. Have a look at the date of WB2UCI. It is for old WB 1 engines and it is no longer in development. The GUI is supporting these old WB engines with this adapter.
2. If it is a book move it should be played imediately. 4 to 5 seconds at what time control? My first thought was that this is the opening advisior kicking in.
Bye

I play at 1m+1 sec and the book kicks in here instantly, so I was trying to find other explanations.IWB wrote:Hellogeots wrote:I know you are using the non- deep UCI version as i am. Re: Where is Tony Thomas- Help with Shredder 11 Please
I just realized that I made a mistake in buying Shredder 11, I could have saved 12 bucks entering my old serial number. I have contacted the support, hopefully they will refund the difference back.

I appreciate you taking the time to help here, Ingo. I think i have the book problem straightened out, and appreciate your input on the wb2uci file.
