Yes, that would reduce the problem a lot. If it's possible with a new board software version, I suggest to set it to "no subquotes." Because I think, in 99,7% of the cases, people reply only to something in the previous posting and not to something earlier.

Hi Mike,

in threaded view your suggestion is fine, but in flat view sub-quotes are necessary in order for members to know whom one is replying to.
From polls carried out in the past, I'd guess that more members use flat view rather than threaded view.

Sub-quotes aren't necessary for that. Single level quotes would do for that purpose.

I think what Greg meant is, that only the previous posting's new text is automatically quoted if the quote button is used, but not older quotes. In other words, a series of unedited fullquotes will only contain the previous posting, each and not repeat the whole thread over and over...

I think, the new text from the previous posting is enough, also for flat view. I use flat view too. I like to see that

Z replied to Y

but I do not need to see in Z's posting that

before, Y had replied to X who had replied to W who... with the fullquotes each

I like it the way it is. If you break up the whole subjects into little
bits here and there?

I don/t have time sometimes to look at all the ans. diff. people have
given so when the last person that posts and quotes all the
prevous posts i can get a run down on what all have said before
i post and who i want to reply to.

Perhaps I misunderstood the term subquotes. I thought that subquotes were only parts of a full quote.

I know that I don't quote in full unless necessary.
