Simple endgame?

Post by Jack Lad »

[d] 8/6pp/8/8/8/6P1/1k2K2P/8 w - - 0 1

This is a win for white in 27 moves but can you prevent your engine from forcing a draw? :?

I think you will find that this one is much harder to solve than it looks. 8-)

Hiarcs 11.2 finds it. The key is Kd2! Kd3? only draws.

Glaurung 2.0.1 immediately finds Kd2 with a large + score.

Indeed Kd2! is the only winning move here and after black plays Kb3! then Kd3! is now the only winning move but I wonder if anyone can force the win against an engine without resorting to using EGTBs?

[d] 4k3/5p1p/1p5P/6P1/P7/8/8/4K3 w - - 0 1

[d] 8/6pp/8/8/8/2k5/6P1/1K2N3 w - - 0 1

These positions are also won for white but can your engine stop you?

Look at the sites:

http://www.shredderchess.com/online-che ... abase.html

http://chessok.com/?page_id=88

They solve at a maximum of 6 pieces, and booth found that
Kd2 it´s the only move that wins and it´s a mate in 27.

Sure but I was wondering if a human could beat an engine without referring to EGTBs.

Anyway an EGTB won't help you solve this one straight away.
