Re: Who do you think will win Movei vs Bright-02c
A good performance from movei. I would have predicted Bright to win, as it is a better blitzer than Movei.
Edit :My mistake, they are almost the same strength with Bright having a slight advantage.

Sorry to say that, but I think that you are using a stupid generic opening book for Bright, right?pichy wrote:Tony Thomas wrote:A good performance from movei. I would have predicted Bright to win, as it is a better blitzer than Movei.

You are correct Tony, Bright and Movei are about the same strength, and possibly bright might be a little be stronger than Movei 0_8_438 with the standard personality, but for my test I decided to use Movei0_8_438 with Personality 10 10 10 which is definitively much stronger than the standard personality.Tony Thomas wrote:A good performance from movei. I used the drdeeb.bbk of 1082 KB, but if you wish to call it stupid is up to you. I thought that it was a smart book, or it could be that the other opening book Mainbook that I used for Movei 0_8_438 has better lines![]()
Try using Bright's default opening book and see what comes out of this match....

Based on rating lists bright is clearly stronger than movei with generic book including the personality 10 10 10.pichy wrote:You are correct Tony, Bright and Movei are about the same strength, and possibly bright might be a little be stronger than Movei 0_8_438 with the standard personality, but for my test I decided to use Movei0_8_438 with Personality 10 10 10 which is definitively much stronger than the standard personality.Tony Thomas wrote:A good performance from movei. Re: Who do you think will win Movei vs Bright-02c
To me a 50 point difference in rating wouldnt show clear domination in a 40 game match. Hence the use of "they are about the same strength". I did check CCRL, and my rating list before posting and they seem to concur that Bright got a slight edge.

At long time controls using it's default opening book,Bright is about 80 Elo stronger than Movei bearing in mind that it's an MP chess engine alreadyTony Thomas wrote:To me a 50 point difference in rating wouldnt show clear domination in a 40 game match. I was thinking of your statement for a while of naming a particular opening book as stupid. It seems pretty obvious to me that measuring book performance based on game outcomes is nearly useless. Therefore, Harry's books are almost unparalleled in their ability to arrive at decent positions.
PS: Furthermore, I just finished testing bright _0.2c with its default opening book versus Movei 0_8_438 P10 with Harry's Mainbook and the outcome did NOT indicated that Bright gained much by using your book

The second match outcome was 22 to 18 in favor of Bright -0.2c, but i am almost certain that if I run 10 more matches of 40 games each using the same opening book, the outcome will vary favoring one and then the other engine.
