CCT 10: Berta by Felix Schmenger has entered

Post by Peter Skinner »

With just over 30 days remaining to enter CCT 10, Berta has thrown it's hat into the fray.

Of course all information can be seen at the website:

Peter,

Did you get my email? I am interested to join but I have asked you two questions about the tournament.

Anyhow, I can pay to enter the event but do I really need approval from author to join? I would like to try out my first Quad 6600 (overclocked to 3.3 ghz) and 8GB ram comp 500 Hard drive (all 3,4,5 Tablebases installed)
on Vista 64 operating system. Let me know, at least it can be worth it to watch the event. Thanks and Happy Holidays to you and rest of the members on CCC.

You would need author approval for the engine that you would like to enter into the tournament.

CCT is and always will be an author/approved operator event.

Okay, do you happen to have the email address for Gandalf author? and fritz11 programmer as well. I would like to try to ask them.

Hi Peter,
I've been away from computer chess for a long time. I guess I should search for the original post about CCT10 and read there why there is a registration fee, but I'd appreciate a short comment here.

Thanks,

Thanks,
There is a registration fee due to the cost of commentators. That is the only reason.

I have sponsors for everything else but that. I have prizes from AMD and other people have donated money for the cost of sending out the participant packages.

If someone would like to donate the fee for the commentators, I will remove the entry fee...

It is purely to support costs.

Ok, thanks for the answer.
I don't like the idea of paying for participating, so I won't enter this year (it'll be my first miss!), but I understand your reasons.
I wonder if participation will decrease due to registration fee or if I'm the only poor man around.

There are people who have or will be donating extra money so that people who can not afford the fee can still join.

If the fee becomes a problem, I will remove it and cancel the commentators.

A total of $700US needs to be raised.

If there are 45 participants @ $15 = $675

We currently have 12...

At some point I have to either cancel the GM and such if the money is not raised and refund the entry fees to those who have paid. Then just have it like we did last year.

This would be disappointing for me and some others as I worked very hard to get sponsorship for the event. It wasn't easy as this is an online event.
