Congrats team Hiarcs!! :D

Deep Shredder,Fritz, and Hiarcs are already in the process of trying to overtake Rybka...but I guess it will take 6 months or so before any engine surpass Rybka in engine rankings...

Yes, Congratulations to Hiarcs. Great work! I believe that Hiarcs 12 will be a big step forward compared to Hiarcs 11.1/2 and perhaps a threat for Rybka?

1st Mexico (Zappa), now this ... 8-) Yes, Congratulations to team Hiarcs! Oh, and also a BIG thank you would have to go to Cluster Toga for stopping Rybka's roll.

Message for team Rybka, it's no longer safe at the top.

Why do you see this as a surprise?
They were 7 games played and Hiarcs won for just 1 Buchholz point, having the same points with Rybka.
Just take a random series of 7 games from CEGT base for example and you will definitely see many Rybka loses....

Nothing unusual here....

Hiarcs won the tournament. A fact.
We can't make any conclusions at all for the program's strength from this tournament. A fact also.

To understand how much "randomness" is involved in these tournaments is the fact that in the end who will be the winner or not was decided by the results of other programs like Spike Vs SOS match, and IsiChess game.
If the results of these matches of these programs was different then Rybka would be 1st, etc....

So we have Hiarcs as a winner of this tournament, but this is not a surprise or a revolutionary phenomenon that changes the map in computer Chess.

Message for team Rybka, it's no longer safe at the top.
My point from all the above is your above statement. :D
A statement that is false, since mathematics say that even if a program is 100 ELO above competition, it can lose a tournament of less than 20 games. Rarely but it can....

Tournaments are good for having fun and advertising the programs, but the results of them should not be taken as a measure of strength that would lead to overstatements like this was a surprise, a new star, etc....

Hiarcs, Shredder, etc are strong enough to resist against Rybka in a 10 games match. In a 20 games match.
Things get difficult in 30 games match but they can sill beat Rybka. Things get nastier at 50 games. And at 100 games we should start seeing the real Chess ability of the programs.....

"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

Congratulations to the Hiarcs team !

As a bonus, no doubt Intel UK will be pleased that the free 8-way machine that they gave the Hiarcs team has been put to good use, so a 16 way machine might be the next give-away ! Go Hiarcs ! :) I'm looking forward to Hiarcs 12

Hiarcs can also claim that they did not lose any games. Over all a lucky tournament for Hiarcs. I think it's too early to say that things arent looking good for Rybka's top spot. As you all know, Rybka 3 is coming.
