Re: Release notes that come with the download
Definitely not the same engine. The code clean up reported in the Readme file has significantly improved its standard in 3 to 5 minute games when it is now in the same league as Rybka 2.3.2a mp x64 on my dual core machines.Werner wrote:Hi,
the new download has only changed the name as with the first download several users had problems to install the engine inside Shredder gui. Its the same engine
So far, over 241 games and same book against allcomers there is less than 20 Elo between them with Rybka still marginally stonger. Observations indicate ZMII has retained its tactical sharpness and superior endgame play. Where the gains have been made is its speed of play and clock handling. So the code clean seems to have worked.
One very happy Zappa customer.

Re: Release notes that come with the download
Well I finally have it all setup and tonight the games begin. Zappa Mexico x64 takes on Rybka 2.3.2a x64 on two of my machines. First a 100 game 16 0 match on my Quadcore 4.4Ghz and then on my other machine Quadcore 3.2Ghz a 500 game match at 5 0.
Books to be used are the Perfect.ctg book for Zappa II (patched up from weak lines) and for Rybka it will by the RybkaII.ctg (patched up from weak lines). The patched up work was done by Sedat for the Perfect book and by Nick Carlin for the RybkaII.ctg. This should be as close as possible to the optimum setup for Rybka and Zappa. I did a similar test before and Rybka came out on top in both catergories with a score of almost 70%, I will interested to see how things have changed.
I am also using EGTB's for both engines through the CB GUI.

Re: Release notes that come with the download
You may be confusing things - 4 or 5 days ago, the Zappa Mexico II update was made available from shredderchess. After some people including me had problems registering under the Shredder GUI, Stefan re-named the engines files and made them available to download in a new package. It *IS* the same engine, just the exe has been re-named
You may be getting confused with the minor Zappa update that was offered back in November.

Re: Release notes that come with the download
Ray,
If that is the case then why is the .exe file smaller on the latest release and why is it playing so much better? 1.39 Mb for the x64 for second release and 1.38 Mb on II release. 1.21 Mb and 1.19 for the 32 bit versions respectively. These ARE different engines, the smaller size of the II release being consistent with the code clean up.

Re: Release notes that come with the download
The exe that I just downloaded now is the same size as the one I downloaded 5 days ago. It is the same engine - Stefan will confirm. Just re-named
It is 1420kb (the 64-bit engine) in both downloads
In the initial download, it was named
Zappa Mexico II x64.exe (1420kb)
In the new downlaod it is named:
Zappa_Mexico_II_x64.exe (1420kb)
Again, you must be getting confused.
Why not email Stefan at shredder support to ask him what happened

Re: Release notes that come with the download
Ray,
Yes, the engine I was referring to is the 25.01.2008 release. I thought you were confusing with the second release in Nov 2007.
Apologies,
AK

Re: Release notes that come with the download
Hi,
do you compare the release for 12th Nov. 2007 with the one from 26th January 2008?
Then you are right
