If you want to run an FRC engine match between 2 engines, can the GUI choose random openings with switched sides ?
Or, can it use a pgn with say 50 opening positions and play 50 games with switched sides ? The problem there (I think) is that the ArenaFRC syntax and ShredderFRC syntax are different
All this is implemented, but untested.
Matthias.
Thanks - well I will try to find the time to try it !!
The CCRL FRC list is currently limited to ShredderFRC UCI engines only, due to the compatibility issues with ShredderFRC and ArenaFRC. If there is a single environment where the two engines types can play each other, then the list can be extended dramatically
If you are familiar with polyglot, then you can play with Arena, Arena has no problem with the engines FRC having winboard protocol, it seems that have this problem with the engines UCI.
But if you use your polyglot with engines UCI, they will play perfect in Arena. I am thus playing Ayito and is not complicated.
Moreover, I also have to say that ChessGUI of Matthias and Winboard_F of H.G. are also good interfaces .

I'm not familiar with that, but am aware if it. You need to know how to set the parameters for each engine if applicable, and they will vary, so I decided against this, because I could never be sure that the engines would be playing as they should be
Could you explain in a Readme file how to use your GUI?
I have installed two engines, but when I go to the menu to run a tournament the two engines are not there to be selected.
Where is the problem?
Your Chancellor engine is rejected by Winboard_FRC: it says Chancellor does not support Capablanca chess neither FRC.
Yes, readme is not up-to-date yet ;(
Just go back to engine installation window and tell the GUI what the engines are capable of (like supported variants, castling conventions, etc.). To save the new options, click "Install one or more engines".
In tournament setup window, GUI will show you only engines suitable for chosen variant.
Maybe your Chancellor is too old. Internal communication in early versions was good for old ChessGUI but bad for Winboard .

Can't say whether LoopFRC runs.
Jonny works here installed as WB1, my .exe is from 1.12.2005. Also no problems with Loop for Chess960 with SMK UCI.

It sounds like you have an older version of Chancellor there. This had a protocol problem, not using the 'features' command correctly to tell WinBoard of the variants it supports.
A work-around is to starts WinBoard_F with the command-line option /variant=fischerandom. In that case it makes the default assumption that the engines you attach only play the mentioned variant. (Without a /variant option it assumes that they only play "normal".)
The /variant can also be in the winboard.ini file, but it is not saved there, so you would have to put it there again and again, every time WinBoard saves its options. But when running a tournament under PSWBTM, such saving is suppressed, so anything you write in the .ini file will stay valid for the entire tournament (and the next!).

Chess960-support now seems broken in some of my 10x8 engines/versions. When I fix that, I may resurrect Chancellor 1.00d for a day.
Note that the WinBoard_F support for Chess960 is still also only in the alpha stage. So if it does not work with WinBboard, (the version currently as alpha.tst on my website), it need not necessarily be a fault of the engines...

Best,
Matthias.
Well, engine is Chancellor 1.00d.
Tell me what options for chess variant should I check?
UCI1 or UCI2
Does it play FRC? If "yes", what is the castling rule: UCI_HAha, UCI_OO or WB_OO
The same for Joker80 and all other engines that play chess varianats.
When people find so many problems in the beginning it is difficult to start something new.
Best

I had the same Gemuh-GUI problems running PSWBTM: the same two engines are installed, but I don´t know how to start a tournament.
How to fill up setions:
File Settings
Starting Position
Initial Pairings Import
Thanks.
