Chessmaster 11000, license

Post by Tony Thomas »

I couldnt find any kind of license/restrictions inside my chessmaster grandmaster edition. Does that mean that it is legal for me to give a friend of mine my login and password to download the set up file the digital download store?

Sorry about the borderline illegal question

Hi folks !

Some judicial problems please ( deh....Tony incites me  ):

-Can I donate all me legal chess engines to somebody without any problem ? This person is a legal owner now ?

-Can I offer -like heritage -all me legal chess engines to my single son ?Is he now a legal owner ?

-If my wife is interested in chess ( ) they are some legal ways to use my chess engines or she must spend another money ( ) ?

-If one of my sons is minor it's possible to use my chess engines without any legal problem ?

In all these situations must I drop out to some of my computers ( deh Loop,Hiarcs MP ,maybe the future Rybka......are personalized ) ! Nice ?

Have a nice weekend !

Most of the engines come with some sort of license agreement that restricts you from giving it to another person. I bought the digital download version, and I couldnt find any such files in any of the directories. I just happend to know a famous tournament director who is running low on cash and wont be buying any commercial engines for a while. If I could show him some proof that it is OK for him to use my download, I could send it to him, note that I have never used the online playing code.

He rejected my offer to let him use my download account, so I guess discussing this any further will be a moot point. However, I am planning on buying him deep shredder 11. I forgot to use my existing customer discount when I bought shredder 11. When I contacted stefan, he said he cant refund the money, but offered me deep shredder 11 for 30 dollars instead of 66. So I have already contacted stefan asking him if I can buy the engine for another person(I would get billed, but wont receive the activation key). Let's hope that he agrees.

I would contact the UBISoft support department.

While I could never see them stating it was fine to do so, you never know.

When I add the product to my cart, it is a license for 1 computer. Not several...

I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

Thanks for the help Peter, I bought the product a week or so after it was available as a download. So I dont remember seeing 'license for one computer' message while I added it to the cart.

Whether you buy the CM in a package in the store of buy a downloaded version off the net, both are protected by copyright laws and thus it is illegal to make copies for your friends or anyone else. The warning notice most likely is on the site where you purchased the version in the first place.
In answer to the other gents question: "can I give the software I purchased to someone else", the answere is yes provided that you give them the original disks and don't keep any copies for yourself.
