I'm not the betting type... And you can be very right, to some extent I would expect that:
But Hiarcs 1 isn't released yet, and yo don't mention if you compare the still not released Hiracs 12 to Rybkba 2.3.2a , sp or mp, or the also not released Rybka 3...
With a lot of faith in Mark and Hiarcs, I wouldn't take the bet, even if I was the betting type of guy, disregarding you answers to questions

Why silly? Not silly at all.
Do you know of any other such engine that would play Stratego? It seems difficult to write a decent one engine. And to outplay humans seems very difficult also.....
The program Probe plays Stratego and won the 2007 Computer Stratego Championship but does not beat humans. My hope is to at least beat Probe.
I am not on the HIARCS team, but I did see some of the betas playing on ICC a few months ago. I expect it to be Rybka's closest rival. Although I did hear Stephan has a strong beta as well. HIARCS did have the top spot among programs with HIARCS 7.32 when Mark took a break. IMO, he seems to be able to improve his program faster than others and it wouldn't surprise me if it were number 1 again in the future.
Visual personal impressions is one thing... many here wil tell you that, and so will I.
Anyway, and back to topic, the chart liked to in this thread, shows us some great potential, though, in order to provide strenght having good scores againt the best isn't enough...
The general ratinglists often tells other stories, than those you see when watching a face to face matches.

Zillions is the strongest Stratego computer player. Of course, it cheats by knowing all your pieces from the beginning
Back on topic, I would also like to see Fruit released.

Stratego.... woww, one of the favourite games of my childhood. I know it's a bit off-topic but I wonder if there are any Stratego-engines that can be downloaded for free?? And are there any free websites in which you can play this great game against other humans?
No. This data is insufficient to conclude anything about the relative strengths between these two engines.
Yes Terry, but if this was the situation in a round robin tournament in a championship,a difference of 5 points is impressive....
The difference up to now (according to the link you gave), is not 5 points since Fruit played 4 more games (28 games for Fruit against 24 for Rybka). Moreover Rybka already played against Naum 3.0 which is a strong opponent (even if it doesn't perform well in this tournament up to now).
I think we have to wait until the end of the tournament to get a better picture. They have to play the same number of games and against the same opponents.
