I think Garbochess has been a bit lucky to score so well, and also, it hasn't had to play romi yet :).

But v2 is much, much stronger than v0.2 (v1 was never released). Moving to C++ and bitboards provided a huge speed increase, and I was able to add more knowledge to the eval. with very little speed loss as well.

Also, the q-search now handles checks, and will generate checking moves in the first few ply, which increases tactical strength significantly.

I have few games of Garbochess, but it is currently slightly below Romichess. It could be due to the weaker set of opponents Garbo played against. I am also using the 32 bit version like Graham.

Code: Select all

 57 RomiChessNG9 2481 31 31 420 57% 2429 18%

Code: Select all

67 GarboChess 2.01 2444 179 138 35 90% 1994 3%

Yes, I seem to not do as well against weaker opponents as I should. I think that is due to some lingering search/eval bugs. I'm planning on releasing a bugfix version which should do much better there (although it doesn't seem to do a lot better against the top programs, just a few elo better).

The new version is also a bit happier to go king hunting, which helps a lot against the weaker programs :).

Garbochess is impressive bearing in mind that it's somehow a newcomer....
Thanks Gray for your efforts :D
