Glaurung 2.1 tends to overestimate all sorts of positions, not only in the endgame. It's ridiculous how often it displays +3 or +4 scores and fails to win the game. The evaluation is highly speculative, and contains many big positional terms (what you see in the endgame is probably inflated passed pawn bonuses). There is little doubt that making the program less speculative would have made it stronger, but it would also be less fun. I decided that it was still strong enough that I could afford release a somewhat clownish version now; and leave room for a more serious version some time in the future.
A very good program indeed, with a substantial improvement over the previous version. Very well done, Tord!!.
Thanks! Not a very impressive improvement in strength, perhaps, but I think the exciting games make up for it. I haven't had so much fun watching my engine play since Glaurung 1.2.1.

Looking forward to watching some Glaurung 2.1 games, although I've promised a Glaurung 2.1 gauntlet for CCRL to George.
