An updated version of Jeroen Noomen's set of opening positions. Intended for engine vs engine testing, gives a balanced representation of modern chess.

would be far nicer were they in EPD rather than pgn, then xboard or any program that understands EPD/FEN would be able to play the games between two programs.

It is interesting you say this.

I had been using Dann's NNSSL.epd for matches using xboard and the -lpf and -lpi options.

But what I discovered was that scid does not like the opening designation by the fen put in the resulting pgn's.

It turns out that there is also a -lpf and -lpi options in xboard to load positions in pgn format

I am hoping scid likes that better, because I imagine the moves from the position file will just be prepended and scid will never be the wiser :)

I wonder if Dann has an NNSSL.pgn laying around his site ???
