There Seems to have been an increase in java engines lately.
Does anybody have a comprehensive list of java engines? Especially noting xboard/uci compatible ones?

Mediocre - open source
Flux
Eden
Olithink?
Ofcourse this is not a complete list, probably Jim Ablett knows more than me. Also, you could search it in Wbec.
Re: Java Engines
Good point, searching Wbec I'm finding these ones as well:
Alf
POS
King's Out
Talvmenni
Olithink isn't
I'll bet there's even more.

Re: Java Engines
There is a Java version of OliThink. Check out Jim Ablett's home page ( http://homepages.tesco.net/henry.ablett/jims.html ) for a compiled binary, and the Olithink home page ( http://home.arcor.de/dreamlike/chess/index.html ) for the source. As well, Jim's page has binaries for other Java programs, including Jchess (from the author of the engine Tytan), Pyotr and Animats.krazyken wrote:Good point, searching Wbec I'm finding these ones as well:

While Googling for Java Chess Engines, I ran across an xboard program named Cheoss, which I've never seen mentioned before.

There's quite a few decent Java applets too, such as Lokasoft's Little Chesspartner and Jester.
Other Java chess engines are Tiffanys, Deep Duke, and the Java version of Tri-OS.

There are lots more besides these.

Cheoss is a nice find I've not come across that before.
I've compiled it to a native windows binary.

The most interesting to me are:
http://www.forthgo.com/chessbox/downloa ... j_1.02.zip
which is a translation of gnuchess to Java (could be interesting as a performance comparison)
and:
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/progra ... achess.zip
which is the engine to accompany this article:

Re: Java Engines
a complete list and also with ELO ratings ?
maybe one could make a tournament , kind of ALL JAVA engines fighting against each other under ARENA ?

Re: Java Engines
If I look at the list posted by Dann, most of them are unknown to the computer chess community. My rating list does have all the known Java engines, except for the one Jim compiled today, and you should be able to find my rating list using search. Out of the ones posted, either Olithink or Flux is the strongest. If I remember correctly Spike was a Java engine until version 0.9. which would make it the strongest Jave engine ever.mclane wrote:a complete list and also with ELO ratings ?

Re: Java Engines
I think it should be "Miguel Embuena" instead of "Miguel Molina" (Molina is his mother's surname.)Jim Ablett wrote:
