TC,

What you you estimate it's rating on modern computers to be? I know there are older ratings listed, but how can one estimate the increase in rating per CPU speed?
between 2500 and 2600 I think...
No,this is an overestimated rating....
It plays at the level of Chess System Tal II and that would be around 2400 Elo....

Hi, I tried to calc this way:

here is the last SSDF result:
12 Shredder 9.0 UCI 256MB Athlon 1200 MHz 2808 20 -20 1280 66% 2694
42 MChess Pro 8.0 128MB K6-2 450 MHz 2475 25 -26 753 40% 2546

Here is CEGT comparison
162 Shredder 9.1 2750 : on AMD 4200+ (SSDF -100 elos ?)

Mchess 8 = 2375 +60 for 900Mhz +60 for 1800Mhz +30 for 2600Mhz
so it was to high, but >2500 is possible?

Hi Werner,
Well, your calculating approach is right in general, but as the SSDF list contains anomalies especialy when we talk about older engines and versions of engines, then you can easily miscalculate MChess Pro 8.0 8-)

I am prettty sure that it plays at the level of Chess System Tal II which by the way has plyed over 200 games in my rating list....I played a lot of games in the past with MChess Pro 8.0 but unfortunately,I lost the program several years ago in a hard disk crash and I haven't got a backup copy :?

?? Why not using the CD and install the program again? You need it to start the program as it is the copy protection.

Only problem here is: does not run on my 64bit system and uses only 10 Mb hash on XP 32bit.
And my Win 98 start disk does not help as HD is now formatted in NTFS and the other thing is: you need more than 550 kB to load MChess correct - so you need a good configured DOS...

best

Thanks Werner, but the tragedy is that I can't find the CD :?
You get your program installed on a hard disk and you think that it will last for ever....

If Martin Bryant was able to improve Colossus into the engine it is today, then I see no reason why Marty Hirsch can't do the same thing with MChess.

Also, Bugchess author was able to improve his engine from the Dos version, so there is a chance that we will see 300 elo better Mchess...I wonder if it will be released as commercial? since Colossus and Bugchess are now freewares...

Wow, this is great! I am really looking forward to a UCI MChess. It always has been one of my favourites in the times of Rebel and Chess Genius.
