It's about 14 hours to Aquarium release now.
The download size is 23 Mb.
Those of you who already purchased Aquarium, or who are plannig to do so, don't worry: Aquarium Demo won't break your Aquarium, if it's installed in another directory.
Demo version can not be upgraded to full Aquarium.
There are certain differences with the Aquarium package:
Program limitations:
* Any engine is working for first 2 seconds
* You cannot open CDP, CBH, PGN databases without converting
* You cannot work with the databases containing more than 10 000 games
* The tree is working only in the 'opening' positions (where the castling is still possible) and a little bit further.
The last point means that IDeA is also working correctly only in opening positions, and the blunder check and game analysis features (that are dependent on trees) may produce strange results.
Package limitations:
* Rybka 3 is replaced by Rybka 2.1 demo.
* Help file is excluded.
* Larry Kaufman's material handicap opening book is excluded.
* The utility programs AquariumTreeUtils and AquariumEpdProcess are excluded.
* Other minor changes.
This is the first time Aquarium goes public. We were working hard for about two years on it, in the hope you enjoy it, and open new chess horizons for you.
As any new program, Aquarium may contain minor (and probably major) bugs. We tried to eliminate all of them, we will try even harder now.
I'll try to answer any questions here, but it's 12 PM here already, and I've got a release tomorrow.

It will calculate for 2 seconds and then freeze....

Hmmmm, my first impressions are not good. The installer wanted to install this into D:\AquariumDemo - why not "c:\Program Files"? I changed the installation directory to "c:\Program Files" and now the program crashes immediately when run
I was looking forward to a new chess GUI but maybe I'll get the ChessBase version after all.

Sounds like your OS is Vista, If so set it to run as Administrator and that should solve your crashing issue.

Yes I'm using VIsta 32 bit. I managed to get the demo running and my second impressions are much more favorable. I still think it's a bit irritating to want to install software in a folder off the root directory of D: and then require admin rights to run. However, the when running the Aquarium does seem to have a good responsive feel. There also seem to be plenty of functionality so I guess I'll plump for Aquarium after all.
well, you see what happens with so many exclusions.
A demo should be a full featured thing with a limited lapse of time of working capability. That way both consumer and producer are satisfied.
