I saw 4 limitations, and no exclusions. Plus, the full Aquarium GUI costs only $10 more than just buying the engine, or $59 instead of $49, so it isn't like you are making deep judgments to pay big extra bucks.fern wrote:well, you see what happens with so many exclusions.
A demo should be a full featured thing with a limited lapse of time of working capability. That way both consumer and producer are satisfied.

Hi.
Aquarium installed fine with Wine 1.1.2 and Ubuntu Linux. Limited testing with the program didn't turn up any grave errors.

Vista is a total crap and a big disappointment for most users....AdminX wrote:Sounds like your OS is Vista, If so set it to run as Administrator and that should solve your crashing issue.Steve Maughan wrote:Hmmmm, my first impressions are not good. The installer wanted to install this into D:\AquariumDemo - why not "c:\Program Files"? I changed the installation directory to "c:\Program Files" and now the program crashes immediately when run![]()
I was looking forward to a new chess GUI but maybe I'll get the ChessBase version after all.

What's the point of making a beautiful operating system, animation, icons, etc.,when it doesn't function well and gives you more headache than satisfaction

Aquarium works, I haven't tested it much yet, from the first glance it looks basic decent GUI, I have yet to go through the features in details.
Unique Feature I have noticed so far:
Allows you to select the Folder in which all the engines installed are located, then it automatically installs everything on its own.

I'm sure I've seen that on another GUI somewhere - Arena?swami wrote:Unique Feature I have noticed so far:

Yep. Arena has that. Thats one easy thing about Arena.James Constance wrote:I'm sure I've seen that on another GUI somewhere - Arena?swami wrote:Unique Feature I have noticed so far:

Loading and running engines and books. It also tells
what opening you are using. I didn't see that in Aquarium,
maybe it has that feature and i didn't see it.

Re: Aquarium Demo
Frankly speaking, it didn`t impress me.
Maybe I`m too adicted to Fritz GUI...
I also like Shredder`s GUI and Arena.
I can`t see a reason to change to Aquarium for those who already own an older version of Chess Assistant (like myself)... what is all the fuzz about it? Which * new * feature makes the difference? Can someone explain it? (Oh yes, how helpful is to get a demo version _without_ a help file !! 2 years working on a GUI, maybe those guys became nuts?).
I think Vas has a fine perception of commerce. Can`t say the same for Convekta... Does CA 10 have great new features? Aquarium, at least now, can`t beat Fritz as a GUI, IMHO...
I only wish that CB had a better customer support... well, after all those years, that seems to be almost impossible...

IDeA that is a better implementation of something similar to Fritz's Deep analysis and the powerful usage of trees to store and show information to the user.Ponti wrote: Which * new * feature makes the difference? Can someone explain it?
