Hi ted

You can always ask Larry Kaufman he plays Shogi perhaps he can help.

Shogi abit alien to me thats why i use the Chess variant of Shogi, Crazyhouse :) This variant is the best way to elimate draws!! Very tactical indeed, i use the old Sjeng interface to play it as the other interfaces are abit confusing :P

I don't know much about shogi other than the rules. Here are a few sites found with google. You can probably find others.

TJshogi doesn't have an opening book. I think Spear (a strong engine) has one.

I see there are 5 public shogidokoro programs. Have there been tournaments between these 5 shogidokoro programs? Is yours the first program to play shogi under winboard?

GNUShogi can run under WinBoard, using InBetween to swap the black and white commands.

You can find a configured version of an old version WinBoard + GNUShogi on my websitte:

I haven't heard of any tournaments between these particular programs.

H.G. Muller was able to make GNU shogi play under WinBoard, although it wasn't very straight forward, since GNU shogi is not really a WinBoard engine.
