Yes, it was like this since Rybka 1.0 Beta. Other programs were able to catch it and beat it but a newer Rybka version was already available and stronger.
The strength difference has been growing, not getting shorter. Once programs start catching up, a new, yet stronger version of Rybka is released, as if Rybka came 2-3 years from the future.
Now the next enemy to beat is a freeware engine.

yes. i forgot to mention the tournament was played on an intel core2quad
with 2.4 Ghz and permanent brain was ON. each program 1 cpu.

Yes Rybka v2.2n2 is strong! Note, that as default tablebases are disabled and
even if You activate them no hits are shown (tbs are used Ok).
