Deep Fritz 11 is the other option....
Looking at the rating list,I don't think anyone else has the real chance to reduce the huge gap let alone to close it....
Ofcourse, I agree.

Also not to forget Hiarcs and Shredder...

I'll go with (Deep) Fritz 12 and Naum for commercials.

Thinker and Twisted Logic for freewares.

I forgot about the freeware engines: Twisted Logic, Thinker and Toga are going to be even better in short time, also don't forget Bright.

I think if Tord got serious Glaurung could compete for second best. I don't see anything getting close to Rybka for quite a while.

By the time they beat Rybka 3 there'll be a Rybka 4 or 5 around...

Indeed, if only we can count on continious progress in strenght... If not, we may well se a situation where a bunch of programs is more less even in strenght - again ;)

As I care more for analysis in general, the strength-peeks on the chart is more a kind of fun for me, since less strenght may very well contribute with what I'm looking for.

The target to be reached is Rybka 2.3.2a in my opinion, then we'll talk about Rybka 3.0 which is too far ahead....
_No one can hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward….

On the contrary, to really succeed you should aim much higher than what you're capable of. I imagine Vas trying, not to beat the programs of his time, but to beat the engines of 2 years from the future, and he succeed. Then, without competition, Vas has nothing to do than beat himself, over an over (reminds me of the racing ghosts on videogames.)

Small improvements will allow anyone to beat Rybka 2.2n2, or Rybka 2.3.2a, but to beat current Rybka you need a quantum leap.

no

Most need quantum leap even only to beat Rybka2.3.2a

I meant that they should not focus on small improvements, but that they should focus on finding that Quantum leap.

With a revolutionary idea, someone could find a quantum leap that also beats current Rybka, in theory.
