Would you believe that someone who doesnt know Icelandic, could learn it in 1 or 2 days and then give an exhibition in Iceland TV where he is interviewed in that specifically difficult language? What I want to show you is that such things are do-able. If you doubt it I raise my bet on 1 million €.
I would take that bet, because the person you are referring to took 9 days to learn it. He also holds (held?) the record for the most digits of pi memorized.
I do agree with Bob that this discussion is going "nowhere fast" though...

That's what happens when the ugly masses steal the show. *Sigh*

Ok, you put up 1 million € at the City Group Bank. The guy had it in 1 day, Zach, the other days, but not nine, he improved his pronounciation because that was the deal. The spectators thought he was Icelandic. <smile>
-Popper and Lakatos are good but I'm stuck on Leibowitz

That's why I also disagree with Uri that the Fischer anecdote showed something spectacular. I would bet that almost all GM could do that.
But I know also that it's possible to reproduce the number chain of thousands of items, completely meaningless one by one.
No. No money is fine. But the "experiment" is as follows. Someone will simply recite to him in whataver language you choose, something that I write. He gets to hear it one time, does not get to see it in writing, then has to regurgitate it exactly as it was read. Try it. It is not easy. Unless you use 7 words or less.
