This is one of the funniest comments I have read in a while, but at the same time its also the saddest. Is your mom taking any medications? I read about some alzheimers medications showing improvements in patients with dementia..I think it was in the last issue of rite-times ( you can pick up a copy at rite-aid).Michael Sherwin wrote:
Okay, this is getting complicated and I am too busy trying to convince my mom that I am not her sister and that I am her son. "No I do not want to try that blouse on and I definitly have no need for that purse!"![]()

Anyway, Sam offered first and I accepted. However, if Sam was only offering as a favor and would really rather have someone else be Romi's operator then Ted or a hardware improved Tony would be Okay with me. Thanks, in advance, to whom ever will operate Romi.![]()
Well, I had planned to attend this one at the site, but my mom's dementia has made that impossible.

I wonder which one of these would be faster for Romi. I simply do not have enough money to buy parts and have someone build one for me (I asked around, and the lowest quote I have gotten so far is 150 bucks)..I simply do not care about having the fastest computer, it isnt like I am planning to run yet another over clocked Rybka on playchess. The first one comes with 64bit windows installed, Romi gets around 20% speed up from 64bits.

They both have 64 bit windows installed. All you really need is the first one. However, it is really impressive to watch Glaurung spinning away the iterations on 4 cores! Romi will perform about the same on either one.Tony Thomas wrote:I wonder which one of these would be faster for Romi. Just step aside or you might have a bit of heat

Can the people ever change their ways

If your only purpose is to have something for the tournament,
why not go with Ted's offer.
Also, you could rent time on a system:
http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/
or
http://www.transtec.com/

Well, I need one for everyday testing as well. Since I work for rite-aid, I am eligible to receive 7% off of a dell, which gets me an all included package, 64bit vista, Q 6600, 6GB of ram for 743 dollars. Do you think that a 4 year accidental protection is necessary? I can get that for 62 bucks. I wonder if they would give me free shipping though..CRoberson wrote:If your only purpose is to have something for the tournament,

You ordered at 3 am? There is a reason infomercials are on late at night.Tony Thomas wrote:Well, I need one for everyday testing as well. Buying a Dell because of a 7% discount is a good idea; unless their
price is over 7% too high. Also, a dual versus a quad is not a performance
issue for a single process. The difference is in the CPU speed, RAM and
motherboard speed, and the cache. The two you mentioned looked
reasonably equivalent.
If you want to increase the productivity of your rating list, then the
Quad might be better. That assumes you will run 2 or more tournaments/ gauntlets
simultaneously. If you don't allow pondering you could run 4.
However, I think I'd suggest 3 in that case.
Re: ACCA PanAm kibitz rule
Planning on exactly that. I am finally going to be running tournaments under ChessGUI and Chesspartner along with my favorite, Arena. That 787, is along with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and tax. I heard that a multiprocessor Romi is in the works.CRoberson wrote:You ordered at 3 am? I hope not to be a bad omen but your state mate Ted Summers had problems with a quad core computer he bought from Dell. I think dell is best suited to laptops and hp or gateway, acer, will make better pcs.
