Comparing Amy, Crazy Bishop and Phalanx

Post by Kirill Kryukov »

This is kind of computer chess paleontology. I was always curious about these three engines. Since recently I've run some test games for them, I decided to compare with other rating lists. Report attached at CCRL forum (I can't attach files here).

Interesting comparison, and it includes two of my all time favorites, TCB, and Phalanx. I have never had that sort of luck with Amy though, it always performs much weaker under my time controls.

Tony, I think it would be interesting if you made your test results (games and rating list) public.

Regarding Amy, I think there is a place for luck in any tournament. That's why I wanted to compare all the sources I could find. :-)

BTW I noticed that I posted a wrong link. Here is a link to comparison thread which I should have posted.

I would like to see more often a comparison of this style, rather than simply reporting one's own results. Especially in a highly competitive areas, like #2-#5 commercial engines. :-)

To me, Amy is the strongest of the bunch. Phalanx is the wildest one, while the Crazy Bishop plays standard computer chess at around a 2300 clip.

My test results are public, though I havent been able to play any games lately due to CPU overheating problem. May be I should stick the darn thing in a freezer and call it a day..Amy has problems with incremental time controls, or so I think..

Here is my ratings for the three engines.. Note that I dont have too many games except for Phalanx. Phalanx is one of the best king attack engines among the engines rated around 2400, hence the reason I picked it as a sparring partner for Romichess. Romi has weaknesses in that area due to the fact that it is a constant attacker.. I wish you could tell me how you make the rating list for CCRL (the best list), do you use an automatic tool to weed out the weaker version of the same engine?

I was interested in strength comparison this time. In terms of playing style Phalanx is my clear favorite among them.

Yes, an automatic tool, which is not public unfortunately.

I should add this data into the comparison. :-)

I agree with Tony, Amy didn't play at its own level in blitz. Other two engines did.

Here is a link to the rating list I posted many months ago. I have not played more than 1000 games after that, so no significant changes.
