Last: the gui is ugly.

Depends on the perspective. From a usability point of view, ChessPartner is much prettier than Aquarium, yet many people think Aquarium is beautiful.

I will pick chesspartner over aquarium anyday..The version of aquarium that I used reminded me of browsing through a poorly designed website. Chesspartner on the other hand is much easier to use, mind you there are no shiny pink colored buttons for Fern.

@Tony and Ulysses, Have you tried ChessGUI and Winboard_F? Looks like these are updated often, unlike Classics Arena and Chessbase.

I have used both, but I prefer Arena for running tournaments, and winboard for running Romi on ICC. Yes, I do use winboard (the one modified by H.G, I dont play any fairy chess though), but I havent downloaded the latest version. Cant wait for the darn computer to get here..

I love the title song from Seval by the way.

Agreed, Arena is still a popular choice. Too bad that it is not getting updated often as it used to.

I should read help manual on how to load up the chess engine and connect it to ICC using winboard, Chess partner is Ok..I will check out the winboard anyway.

I could help you with running an engine on ICC. However, you have to follow the instructions exactly as I give you, otherwise, you will have to edit the text files. Are you up for the challenge?? What was your opinion about Subramaniapurum? I loved it, it was one of the most original Tamil movies that I watched recently..Especially the fourth murder scene in the movie.

Yes, I use Winboard when I'm on a chess site and a fen without diagram appears or there are complicated variations that I can't visualize, so I just open, paste, move and everything is very smooth and fast; and small, I can just change the board size to fit anywhere in a window so I can move the pieces and scroll the page without having to switch windows, I don't think it can get better than this.

I'm going to try ChessGUI soon, it could be great to request for features and see them implemented, like a fun mode in where in a game odd moves are played by Rybka and even moves are played by Twisted logic, how would it fare against a half-Naum half-Shredder engine? Too bad this isn't useful but chess is about the fun after all

ChessGUI - I tried an old version and I liked that it had some interesting features, but not enough to switch to it.

Winboard_F - I don't like that you have to use special adapters, special addons and editing text files for maximum usability. I'd like an "Integrated" Winboard but it's not going to happen. I still use Winboard_X to check positions on the fly because it's a super light GUI I can load and use it instantly, but I've not been interested in the new features.

I use ChessPartner for engine matches, Shredder GUI for analysis, Bookup for analysis storage, Fritz GUI to use Fritz, Junior and OutputThinker and I'm very happy with them, so I don't see a need for something new.

I think you should try downloading the latest ChessGUI, I have been hearing good stuffs about it, one from Graham, he says the author can get any bugs fixed within 24 hours time, implement new features without any delay...

now the chessgui has more features, some of them I think are documented in the gui's website.

As for winboard, I agree it's not very user friendly, that's the turn off. Other than that It's compact and Ok for quick game once in a while.

Not only its compact, it is the most reliable, and it doesnt violate the protocol it supports. I am a winboard lover, mainly because it is so light on the operating system, so the engine gets to use more CPU than the GUI. Remember that under Chesspartner your engine was running out of time?? It happens because the engine loses connection with the GUI, never happens with winboard. I am still a beginner with winboard. However, what ever I have used it for, it does it better than any other GUI, yup learning curve is a beyotch..

I wish H.G. or Alessandro would make it Arena-like user friendly for layman /newbies. There's nothing in the menu once you load up the winboard..command, command and more command.

That's why more people prefer Playchess (which is way easy to use) than ICC (complicated). Online Stats show 4000 usual in playchess against 2000 in ICC last night.

I hardly watch any movies nowadays. Last one I watched was Kuselan. I borrow Dvd's, I saw one thriller The Machinist recently, just way cooool. Perfect for late night. Recommended it to Nicolai and it made its way and founds its place in his Top 10 movies, he had seen in his entire life... Since the film is originally spanish, Perhaps Ulysses or Pedro know about it?

Isn't it like a terror movie? I tend to avoid those.

Also, what about Speed Racer? I loved that one! But I read the critics and it seems you'll only like it if your inner child is still alive. If you do hate the move, then your inner child is dead (this is different from Pixar movies that are also targeting adults so they can watch it with their kids, Speed Racer is only targeted to kids, so liking it is signal of youth of the mind.)

Speed racer was a movie good only for 9 year olds. My cousin couldnt stop talking about it for days.. Me on the other hand didnt like the computer generated graphics. I cant say I hated it though..

Terror? Hmm I thought it was kinda Suspense/Thriller/Twist...

I'll check out the Speed racer, probably I'd love it anyway since I still once in a while watch Tom and Jerry, Just for Laughs, and read comics...
