Fritz 6 2560?? Cegt
Fritz6 only 2560 on X2 4200+ this has got to be way off, hell Hiarcs on a palm pilot got over 2700 performance this year.

Software has advanced quite a lot in the past 9-10 years. There is only so much a faster system can do if the software that you are using is quite dumb..It could very well be due to the fact that they do not have a wide variety of opponents.bigo wrote:Fritz6 only 2560 on X2 4200+ this has got to be way off, hell Hiarcs on a palm pilot got over 2700 performance this year.

After 10 years, I think Rybka 3 will be 2600.

That's unless if they keep one of the engines fixed at a certain rating (Shredder 10 at 2800 for example) and keep reducting the offset.swami wrote:bigo wrote:Fritz6 only 2560 on X2 4200+ this has got to be way off, hell Hiarcs on a palm pilot got over 2700 performance this year.

Ofcourse you're right. But I'm pretty sure that Fritz 6 was claimed to be rated over 2700 at the time it was released.Tony Thomas wrote:That's unless if they keep one of the engines fixed at a certain rating (Shredder 10 at 2800 for example) and keep reducting the offset.swami wrote:bigo wrote:Fritz6 only 2560 on X2 4200+ this has got to be way off, hell Hiarcs on a palm pilot got over 2700 performance this year.

I just read my post again, it sounds like I was telling others to reduce the offset value. My intention was the exact opposite. If I keep my Offset value a constant throughout testing (or I can offset it to that of an engine), then the rating of the current engines wont be affected much.
Offset Micromax 2000 would be a much better choice than Shredder though..

Fritz 6 is rated around 2530 in my rating list at long time controls....actualy it's now playing in one of my up running tournaments and it's lowering its rating by 20 points....
It's playing strength is around 2500....
So more or less,CEGT's rating for Fritz 6 is correct....

I wonder if it's because all these engine ratings are statistical predictions of their results against other engines. Maybe this doesn't correlate with human ratings, and predict well what their results would be against humans.

Fritz 6 Light is rated 2636 in CCRL 40/4 (after playing 1597 games). Which, by the way, is 6 points below Fritz 5.32 in the same list (2642, after 2100 games).
Generally though you can't directly compare ratings from different rating lists to each other. You have to calibrate the two lists to a common standard to make ratings comparable.
Computer chess ratings usually have more or less nothing to do with human ratings. Some attempts were made to calibrate computer ratings to human ratings in the past, but at the current moment there is no relevant calibration remaining.
Additional problem here is that engine-engine performance is very different from engine-human performance for many engines. So even if some particular engine-engine rating list was calibrated to human rating scale by some way, it would still make very bad predictions about engine-human results.

No, 2600 on recommended hardware 300Mhz was the claim in the manual autumn 1999, I think.swami wrote:Ofcourse you're right.
