Post by Dr.Wael Deeb »

....at this rate,it will probably reach Rybka's 3 level in less than 6 months....

Well, Wael, I'd say you're far more optimistic that I am.

I'd predict that It would take about anywhere around 1.5 - 2 years of active Thinker development for it to be able to attain Rybka 3 level. Keyword is active, how "active" is debatable... If at the recent release rates, I'd guess then it could be possible.

Remember that, it even took Vas years from Rybka 1.0 (about current Thinker's strength) to the much improved Rybka 3.

- Vas had a forum up and running since his one of first commercial releases.

- Vas is an IM and a full time programmer.

- A lot of people reporting bugs/ helping him out.

And still It took him YEARS to improve the engine by nearly 200-300 elos.

So, I think the probability that an hobby programmer could make huge improvement in such a short time is slim. But it could still happen. :D

I'd predict that It would take about exactly 2 years of active Thinker development for it to be able to attain Rybka 3 level. Keyword is active, how "active" is debatable... If at the recent release rates, I'd guess then it could be possible.

Thanks, Wael. Yes, Ulysses deserves the credit for all the logos he made for me. He is generous and trustworthy humble friend we have in computer chess. 8-)

Yes! As long as I'm member #1 ;), Thinker is my favorite engine and I recall I was the first member saying I was a fan of Thinker :)

The requirement for being a member of the club would be to have Thinker as your favorite top one engine, people having Thinker as their #2 or #3 favorite engine shouldn't be allowed!

I also added Chess Thinker, albeit in shared first place with CSTal in top favorites. So I deserve entry into Thinker's club.

I would like to dispute your recollection.. I think it was me who started, what the heck, a thinker thread when everyone was talking about strelka.
