Super Fruit (Let Secret Be Known)

Post by NJDenson »

Some one posted the below position thinking that RC4 was the winning move.

Veselin Topalov - Vassily Ivanchuk, Bilbao Grand Slam Chess Final 2008
[d] 3r1bk1/3P2p1/6Bp/pp6/5r2/P6P/6P1/2RR3K b - - 0 1

Well, I first want to give thanks to Ryan and Fabien for a great engine. But, I dont think they know how great it truly is. I have some settings for multicore fruit that evaluates unlike any engine even Rybka 3. It has beaten Rybka 3 Linux, Cluster Toga (24 cores !!) and a few others at long time controls of 16 min's and above. I trust its eval and would like to show you all some examples of its play.

The above position its my belief that most think black is winning but, when i use my special settings for fruit with no contempt. It believes white is still winning. I have seen this engine make some unbelieable moves, thats rewritting what we believe is the best move. I will post a few of its games some so you can see what I am talking about.

Analysis by Fruit 2.3.5m Test Beta x64:

New game, Blitz:16' Coolidge, Arizona
3r1bk1/3P2p1/6Bp/pp6/5r2/P6P/6P1/2RR3K b - - 0 1

Analysis by Fruit 2.3.5m Test Beta x64:

+/= (0.70)
1...Rc4 2.Rb1 Rc7 3.Be8 b4 4.axb4 axb4 5.Rd4 Rc3 6.Re1 g5 7.Bg6 Rc7 8.Bf5 Kf7 9.Be6+ Kf6 10.Rd2 b3 11.Rf2+ Kg7 12.Ref1 Bc5 13.Rf7+ Kh8 14.Bxb3 Rcxd7 15.Rxd7 Rxd7
+/= (0.68)
1...Rc4 2.Rb1 b4 3.axb4 axb4 4.Bd3 Rc6 5.Bb5 Rd6 6.Rxd6 Bxd6 7.Re1 Bc7 8.Kg1 Kf7 9.Kf2 Kf6 10.Rb1 Bd6 11.Kf3 g5 12.Kg4 Ra8
+/= (0.68)

White is clearly winning.

Hi Nolan,

This is very interesting, what you are saying here. Would you care to post your settings here?
I am asking because I have this engine and would very much like to confirm your findings.
If this engine is indeed much stronger with your settings, then I think that it could encourage Ryan to realise it, possibly for free.

Hi Nolan,

Can you post some of the Rybka 3 Cluster games please. I would like to go over them.

Thanks

The original post means that 1..Rc4 is the only defensive move (all others lose quickly).I have not analyzed this position myself and from the eval that you give I don't know if +0.68 is clearly winning.

Yes what you are saying is true. I guess I should have said white is no losing. Some have posted that black is up by .24

About this version and settings, can you post the settings you have. Reason I asked .... I dont know of anyone that has this version. It was a special version with certain option that I wanted to do adjusting out side of the options that others had.

But, if its ok with Ryan and Fabien I will release the settings.

It is private.

Nolan got it because he is one of the few people who always supported Fruit. Among others he drove official Fruit in quite a few online competitions on his computers.

I have this Fruit also, as a few other other people

I never was able to perfectly tune Fruit although i always thought recent fruit versions should become top class ones with adequate tuning.

If this is to be confirmed with further testing I wholeheartedly congratulate Nolan.

I hope this will be a good opportunity for Ryan (and Fabien) to come back to chess ....

Well, I was given permission to share settings ... lets see if my results can be duplicated .... again the tester should see that fruits evals for long time controls are very different from other engines that are out now.

Here are 2 more moves that i think was outstanding for fruit in an on line game it played.

[d] 8/Rb2r2p/1pq1k1pP/3p1p2/1P3P2/6P1/5PB1/Q5K1 w - - 0 39

[d] 8/Rb2r2p/1p1qk1pP/3p1p2/1P3P2/6P1/5PBK/Q7 w - - 0 40

Not too many engines seen the right move here. The whole game was amazing because fruit got a positional advantage that it understood very well and other engines that was analyzing game did not see the hudge advantage. Some move that looked good by other engines were really bad.

Well, I guess you may not see why i thought moves were great because black was losing .. Here is a move that was made before black knew things were bad.
