Ah ok, I kind of figured that it saves the WHOLE book, and my book is quite large.

I have an old AMD Athlon x2 3800+, with only 1 gig or ram.

I think I will just deal with it since it saves the whole book and I have already adjusted many lines in it. But if there is a way to add moves and adjust weights and save it without saving the whole book, please inform me :)

Well due to the structure of PG books, if you add a move there is not much you can
do except saving the whole book.

However if in a position you have only adjusted the weights SCID could in principle detect this and revert to the old behaviour which is much faster.
