I have just ordered it.Cost 15 eros.Have to wait for engine to be delivered by email.Said it can take 48 hours.Has to be used when running PocketGrandMaster 4.0.
I look forward to getting it.Might be the strongest PDA chess engine.Hope that it will give Rybka a hurry up and release there version for PF3.

I got the engine abot 20 minutes ago.Gave it a test game against PF3 loaded with Hiarcs 12.1.Blitz 5 minute.
Naum won quite conviningly.
I have to go to work now, but can't wait to test it some more.

Had some more games, and they both seem similar in strenght (Hiarcs 12.1).The kN/s reporting by Naum is very irregular with no output when it has found a mate even though there is a quicker mate that can be found.It seems to play itself into good positions and just goes about winning slowly.Quite often Hiarcs will see very strong moves that Naum can play when Hiarcs is pondering, but instead it will play another move which still wins but just not as fast.On some tactical test positions it is quite a bit slower than Hiarcs.I will do some more testing at longer time controls as the blitz is hard to get accurate results from the engine output of what is actually going on in the game.

I looked at a site that had Thinker as the strongest PPC chess engine. It is nice to see more and more engines get ported to PPC since very soon most mobile phones can use that platform (mine already can).

I have tried Thinker, but realise that the PPC version has not been updated since April 2008 and in the mean time PF3 has been released and is a much better platform.I found Thinker alkward to use and love the rich features of the commercial versions.
Any-way I spent the good part of a afternon and evening pitting Naum vs Hiarcs at 30min-30min.I had them both playing on an Ipaq 210 Enterprise each and set them to 32mb hash and used default settings with pondering on.I played a total of 6 games of which 4 were drawn and the remaining 2 were split 1-1.
Game 1 (Naum vs Hiarcs)
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6 6.Bg5 e6 7.Qd2 a6 8.O-O-O h6 9.Be3 Be7 10.f4 Nxd4 11.Bxd4 b5 12.Bd3 b4 13.Na4 Rb8 Naum is out of book and starts thinking on next move 14.Qe3 (+0.38 13kNs) Hiarcs now out of book and plays 14...Bd7 (16kNs) 15.Nb6 e5 16.Nxd7 Nxd7 17.Ba7 Ra8 18.Qf2 exf4 19.Bd4 0-0 20.g3 fxg3 21.Qxg3 Ne5 22.Rhg1 Bf6 23.Kb1 a5 34.Bb5 Qc7 27.Bb3 Rc7 28.Bb6 Rcc8 29.Bd4 Rc7 30.Bb6 Rcc8 31.Bd4 (Draw by threefold repition)
Game 2 (Hiarcs vs Naum)
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.f3 e5 7.Nb3 Be6 8.Be3 Be7 9.Qd2 Nbd7 10.g4 b5 11.g5 Nh5 (Naum now out of book and and has to think about all moves now while Hiarcs stays in book up to move 25! and build up a nice time advantage and wins a pawn to boot) 12.O-O-O O-O 13.Nd5 Bxd5 14.exd5 Qc7 15.Kb1 Nb6 16.Na5 Nxd5 17.Qxd5 Qxa5 18.Bd3 g6 19.Qb7 b4 20.Be4 Rab8 21.Qa7 b4 22.Bc6 Rec8 23.Bb7 Re8 24.Qxa6 Qxa6 25.Bxa6 Ng7 ( Now Hiarcs starts to think for the first time in game) 26.h4 Nf5 (Naum shows it is down 0.37 while Hiarcs evals +0.66)27.Bf2 Bd8 28.Be1 Rb6 29.Bd3 Ne3 30.Rd2 Rb8 31.Be4 Re6 32.Re2 Nf5 33.h5 (H+1.34) d5 34.Bxd5 Rd6 35.Rxe5 Bxg5 36.hxg6 hxg6 37.Rg1 Rdb8 38.Rxg5 Rxd5 39.Rxd5 Rxd5 (H +1.64 N -0.77) 40.Kc1 Ra5 41.Bxb4 Rxa2 42.Rg4 Ra1+ 43.Kd2 Rh1 44.Rc4 f6 45.Rc6 Rh2+ 46.Kd3 Rf2 47.Bc3 Rxf3+ (H+1.82) 48.Ke2 Rg3 49.Rxf6 Rg2+ 50.Kd3 Rg3+ 51.Ke4 Rg2 52.b4 Rxc2 53.Rxg6+ Kf7 54.Rf6+ Ke7 (H +1.69 N-1.00) 55.Be5 Ng3+ 56.Kd3 Rc1 57.b5 Rc5(N -0.3) 58.Bd6+ Kxf6 59.Bxc5 Ke6 60.Kc4 Kd7 61.Bb4 Kc7 62.Ba5+ Kb7 63.Kc5 Ne4+ 64.Kd5 Nf6+(Both show = evals) 65.Kd4 Ne8 66.Kc5 Nf6 67.Kd6 Ne4+ 68.Ke5 Nc3 69.Bxc3 Kb6 70.Bd4+ Kxb5 {Draw by insuffiecient material}
That was good defence by Naum as I have seen Hiarcs 12.1 deal to other PDA engines in this line with a sacrificial K-side attack.
Game 3 (Naum vs Hiarcs)
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.O-O Nxe4 5.d4 Nd6 6.Bxc6 dxc6 7.dxe5 Nf5 8.Qxd8+ Kxd8 9.Nc3 Ne7 (Naum out of book) 10.Bg5 h6 11.Rad1+ Ke8 12.Bc1 (Hiarcs out of book) ..Bg4 13.h3 Bxf3 14.gxf3 Nf5 15.Kg2 Bc5 16.Ne4 Bb6 17.Rfe1 Ke7 18.Bd2 Rad8 19.c4 bd4 20.Bb4+ Ke6 21.f4 Nh4+ 22.Kg3 Nf5+ 23.Kf3 b6 24.b3 a5 25.Ba3 Rhg8 26.Bc1 Rge8 27.Rd2 a4 28.b4 Rf8 29.Rdd1 Rd7 30.Rd3 b5 31.cxb5 cxb5 32.Rd2 Rd5 33.Rc2 Bb6 34.Kg2 Nd4 35.Rc3 Rfd8 36.Bd2 Kf5 37.a3 f6 38.Rg3 Nc2 39.Re2 g5 40.exf6 Nd4 41.Re1 Nc2 42.Re2 Nd4 43.Re1 Nc2 44.Re2 {3 fold rep Drawn} That was not very exciting both thought Naum was better out of opening but after 13.h3?! then there was no progress able to be made.Naum obviosly does not understand the intricaces of the Berlin Ruy Lopez.Beggining to wonder if there will be any results.
Game 4 (Hiarcs vs Naum)

29.Bxf4! strong move by Hiarcs keeps pawn and endgame advantage instead of being a piece up but cramped and under attack.29..Qxf4 30.cxd5 cxd5 31.Rxd5 Rhd8 32.Qd1 Ke7 33.Rxd8 Rxd8 34.Qh5 Qg5 35.Qxg5+ hxg5 36.Kf1 Rd2 37.Rb1 Rc2 38.a4 Kd6 39.a5 c4 40.a6 Kc7 41.b4 Kb6 42.Ra1 Ka7 43.b5 Rb2 44Rc1 Rb4 45.Ke2 Kb6 46.Kd2 g4 47.Ra1 Ka7 48.Ra5 Rb3 49.Kc2 g6 50.Kd2 Rd3+ 51.Kc1 Rc3+ 52.Kb1 Kb8 53.Ra2 Rb3+ 54.Rb2 Rd3 55.b6 e3 56.fxe3 Rxe3 57.b7 Re8 58.Rb6 Rg8 59.Rc6 Rd8 60.Rxg6 c3 61.Rc6 c2+ 62.Kxc2 Re8 63.Kc3 Rf8 64.Kc4 Rf4+ 65.Kb5 Ka7 66.Rc8 Rf5+ 67.Kb4 Rf4+ 68.Ka3 Rb4 69.Kxb4 Kxa6 70.b8=Q g3 71.Rc6#.{1-0}
Good endgame play by Hiarcs.In the rook endgame after 36.Kf1, Hiarcs eval kept on climbing thru the game while Naum did not think position was all that bad and only had a modest -0.8>-1.2 for the next 10 moves.
Hiarcs announces mate much earlier than Naum.Naum only sees the mate at about 4 moves left when Hiarcs had worked it out at about 9 moves.

Over all summary of Naum 4 is that it is a good additional engine for the PocketGrandmaster system.It will work with older version 3.0 too, so no need to update your licence.When compared to Hiarcs 12.1 under PocketFritz3 the Nodes/sec are slightly slower with Hiarcs typically reporting 19kN/s when Naum would report 17kn/s.But Naum would report an extra ply for the same ammount of time.I would like to do more testing and wonder how the differences on PPC compare to the desktop versions.
I hope you enjoyed this summary.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for your Excellent review.

Agree with you that Thinker is missing features.

You cannot save a game with thinker!

You cannot read a game or see any analisys!

I'll really enjoy going over and over your review.
