I really don't know why "my" Rybka doesn't find it. I have an old 1 core computer so maybe on a 4 core computer with more hash it finds it immediately.

The human brain (some say we are more than our brain but anyway) is a neural network. So is it not parallel?

Anyway the human brain has another interesting property which the computer doesn't: consciousness. Computer don't have consciousness and they cannot see or perceive. They can only work with numbers of 1 and 0 and follow the instructions which the human programmed into them. Deep down, computers are just human. The match is basically human vs. human.
With all due respect, this is a pure sample of speculation 8-)
Interesting...I think of man vs. machine in the context that the computer is really an armored human, and the GM is the unarmored human.

I will concede the fact that computers are better at calculating than the GM's are. This is evident and clear. However, humans are still more creative and intuitive than Rybka 3, Fritz, Junior, and Shredder.

The only reason that computers can beat humans now is that the hardware has increased significantly in the last 10 years....Kasparov would have crushed Rybka 10 years ago.
So,the bottom line is that:No top human GM can crush Rybka 3+,which is coming soon by the way, running even on an octal machine let alone a 40 cores cluster machine....
I think that the best that they can do is draw a match with Rybka. Possibly only Kasparov would even have a chance to do it.
Agreed when we talk about Kasparov in his best years, not now....he could win a 12 games match but not with a big margin though....

But without intuition there is no good calculation. Top GMs understand and make use of modern chess theory developed by Steinitz, Lasker, Tarrasch and Nimzowitsch better than computers which helps them evaluate positions.

Yes hardware is improving much faster than software. New technologies such as microprocessors using spin could handle data thousands of times as fast as the present-day processors that rely only on charge.

It looks like this intuition doesn't pay for the human Grandmasters when they meet their silicon opponent....it seems to me that this intuition is worth it for a decoration at most,no benifit at all for the poor human....

Chess my golden friend is about hardcore calculation,no intuition is needed....Experience,sure....recognizing certin patterns,yes....but with naked intuition you'll get nowhere amigo....

Think about it. The human mind really does many tasks at once: maintaining hemeostatis and regulating the body (which it does all the time btw) while at the same time playing chess, hearing sounds or listening to music, learning and inventing. These are several tasks.

The human brain is also capable of understanding multiple languages and the speech processing portion of the brain is just one small part of the whole package -- the brain can also process complex visual images, control the entire body, understand conceptual problems and create new ideas. It is definitely the world's best computer.

I believe the human mind will always be superior to the computer because the human mind invented the computer, not to mention the only reason numbers exist is because we thought them up.
