There is also a possibility to do the logos on the outside, of course. So in fact very similar to the screenshot, but with two-line clocks next to each other, rather than single-line clocks above each other:
| logo | White: | Black: | logo |
| space | 1:00:00 | 1:00:00 | space |
Originally I picked the stacked clocks because I thought it would be more intuitively clear to associate the upper clock with the 'upper' player (i.e. he who starts with his pieces at the top of the board display).
Yes, absolutely, it is better. I feel it could be even better if they are more separated. That is for a human for quick visual inspection as I said in another post.
How about this to make my previous suggestion more "compact"?
In filpView the clocks would exchange. For left and right clocks it is much less obvious which clock to associate with which player, and indeed I built in an option some releases ago (I think it was 4.3.13) to swap them. (When operating at an OTB tournament I percieved it as very annoying if, with the display standing next to the board, my time would appear on the opponent's side of the table.)
Yes, this is also a good solution. Except perhaps that the PV space becomes a bit narrow. (In the look I posted the screenshot of it is really also a bit too cramped to be of much use, due to the button bar, which takes a much too large amount of space relatively, at this small board size. ith largr board sizes tat is better, and there is an option to suppress the button bar altogether.) I also don't really see much need for two PVs.
A separate option could select between top/bottom clock & logo placement vs. left/right; I still like the left/right very much in OTB tournaments, where the display is usualle standing beside the board.
